Summary
“Say the word and we run away.” Eddie whispers.
Steve turns to look at him sharply, incredulous, and Eddie must think that he didn’t hear it cuz he leans forward, close to him, like he’s about to tell him a secret. Steve suddenly feels his mouth dry but he does not lean away. He wonders what type of absence makes him thirsty for secrets. That’s the best way he can describe what he’s feeling, like Steve’s a lonely man, wandering the desert, and Eddie is a fountain, brimming with whatever it is that Steve wants.
“If you want to, say the word, and we’ll run away. I’ll back you up.” Eddie whispers. Steve’s stunned for a second, a shameful part of him perks up at the offer. “Say the word, and we’re out of here. Nobody needs to know, you won’t have to explain it to anyone.”
And oh, isn’t that a thing to hear?
Or: Steve Harrington finds a child, a partner and a lover while he fights a 10 long year battle because he was never selfish enough to go after what he wants.

Summary
“Eddie, look at me.” It was the tiniest reaction that gave it away. The most infimal hesitations of all, and Steve knew something was wrong. “Eds. Look at me.”
His friend sighed and he begrudgingly turned towards him, face low. Steve took three steps forward until he was right in front of Eddie. He moved his hands to hold Eddie’s face but stopped mid way when he flinched.
Steve froze and then he gently held Eddie by his chin, raising his face slowly. He sucked in a breath when he saw the cut going down his eyebrow, over to his cheek, and his lip cut open and slit down.
“Who did this to you?”
“Steve—“
“Who—“ he repeated, harshly. There was a restrained rage simmering in his gut, coming out just a fraction through his tone. “did this to you, Eddie?”

But hey, they’ve saved the world more than trice, so getting their friends back together shouldn’t be that hard, right?
Or: Steve and Eddie broke up a month ago. The kids, tired of this weird thing between their friends and convinced they still want each other, do what they do best; Stick their noses right where they don’t belong.

Every date Steve has gone to lately has been horrible. It’s impossible that there’s something wrong with the entire female population of Hawkins, so surely there must be something wrong with him.
“Why don’t you take me on a date then?”
“Wh— what?”
“Take me on a date, pretend, of course, and then I’ll tell you if there’s something wrong with you or not.”

They heard his name followed by insults. His legacy being torn under the word ‘serial killer’, his only description being freak. Still, they bit their tongues and acted as if nothing had happened. As if the secret that he had been a hero didn’t threaten every second of the day to come out their throats.
As if the fact that Eddie Munson died wasn’t what it really was; A tragedy.
Eddie was better off without a town that thought him a murderer, anyways.
