Summary
Hongjoong eventually turns his eyes back to Seonghwa, watching as Seonghwa watches him. He knows what he’s doing at this point-checking for the damage. Hongjoong always shows up in one piece, he’s promised Seonghwa that much. There’s still moments though he knows Seonghwa can never shake and will never forget. Even with Hongjoong’s insistence that he’s fine, Seonghwa scans in silence. He must see something since the raking stops and he freezes a bit, big eyes turning somehow wider before setting back to normal. Hongjoong doesn’t know what he sees, he’s too scared to check but he still reaches his free hand over the table and interlaces his fingers with Seonghwa’s giving his hand a tight squeeze.
Seonghwa hesitates, Hongjoong looks up and sees the tension in his face, seeing the thin line of former thick lips. Seonghwa lets out a short breath, closes his eyes and squeezes back.

The captain was no stranger to blood, torture and even death but this was tugging on every ounce of emotion his heart could harbor. His tunic was soaked. The once white fabric was all but saturated. The prince who was clenching his wound over the captain’s hands finally fell to the side. Hongjoong glanced back down to the man. He was smiling. His perfect teeth, covered in red, was shinning a smile. All the struggles had slowly faded to stillness.
That moment stretched out for eternity. Hongjoong shook his head wildly before brushing a few dark strands of the prince’s hair aside. His blood-soaked fingers wanted to trace the outline of his opponent’s flawless features but even now he felt unworthy to do so.
“…Please…don’t…” was all that fell from the captain’s lips until he blinked and watched Yunho suddenly enter in his field of vision and scoop Seonghwa in his arms and whisk him away. His hands began to feel the winter wind drying the warmth of blood from his hands. He sat for a moment. No thoughts dared interrupt what took place next.
