Meryl mutters something under her breath, soft footfalls receding from where Knives lays. He can feel Vash’s sigh of relief. His brother has never been this concerned for his wellbeing. Knives was always second to Vash’s precious little humans. Perhaps Knives missed something between the release of death and the timelessness of the welcoming void. Just how long had it been anyway?
He can’t exactly ask Vash, not at the moment at least. It takes nearly all of his strength to open his eyes a fraction to see Vash’s distorted countenance. Knives can make out what must be a smile. Vash’s voice is soft, whispered, only for Knives to hear.
“Welcome back, Knives.”

Nai.
Silence was suddenly difficult for Vash. His increased heart, his increasingly sweet scent, and his excitement all threatened to give him away.
Nai was here. Nai was looking for him. He was trailing his scent. Vash had to stifle the low purr that wanted to rivet in his chest. He cautiously kept himself hidden, not making a noise, because he knew that Nai had the sharpest senses. Any flinch, any hitch in his breath would give him away. The alpha was always so good at stalking and finding him when they were cubs. If anyone here could actually catch him, it was Nai.
And that’s what excited the omega more than anything.
