Summary
People didn’t like Gavin Reed. Gavin Reed didn’t like people. It went together like gin and tonic, you can’t have one without the other. Fate decided that Nines hated him and he hated Nines and so they kept playing their game by these set rules, never questioning the absurdity.
Maybe it was a coincidence that six months into their partnership, Gavin distinctly remembered rules are meant to be broken. It turned Gavin into pretending to dislike Nines. On the flip side, it turned Nines into a dense idiot with a crush, unable to grasp the concept of love. Both in utter denial.
Gravity works against them, draws them closer at a frightening pace. The android appears less opposed to it. How long will it take Gavin to realize he has to pull the door and stop pushing it like an imbecile?

Recovery and remedy comes from a manuscript detailing the events of Mount Massive, a French Spanish Sparrow, a tiny secluded Arizona motel, and a series of conversations occurring in and around a bathtub.
"He didn’t know if it was a sick masochism that made him long to learn about Miles Upshur, or if it was a hunger to expose Murkoff for all it’d done, or the desire to immortalize the only other surviving account of the second ever Mount Massive massacre. The only defining thing was that he did want to know. Hunger, yearn, desire, it was there, and as Waylon sat at his desk and stared at the document on the screen of his laptop, he began scrolling back up to the beginning."

Even if you didn’t know him well, you could say Miles Upshur was a number of things. Handsome, athletic and well dressed were a few that came to mind. Those who were close to him said he was charming, funny, and a loyal friend. Strangers thought he was brash, loud, and obnoxious. If you asked Waylon Park, he could tell you that Miles Upshur was all of these things, and much, much more.
Even before they met, the idea of Miles was intimidating.
