The eldest daughter of the eccentric Addams family, and recent alumnus of Nevermore Academy, would rather move into a morgue basement than adjust to a new roommate.
But Wednesday was confident that, given a few weeks, she could scare off any new roommate at university, and the administration would decide that it was best to leave her to her own devices.
Unbeknownst to Wednesday, Enid has already thought of that.

Wednesday starts university, convinced that she’s going to need to adjust to (or scare off) a new roommate.
Fortunately, that particular concern solves itself quickly.
Unfortunately, that’s just the beginning. Not only is there a vindictive stalker in the shadows… but Wednesday might also have to accept the help of others to survive.

This turns out to be the best decision they ever made, as they soon find their bites to be healing, rather than infecting them further. After this discovery, and fearful of being shot just for being bit, they reach out to Marlene for answers and protection.

Wednesday always thought people's emotions were like water.
Big bodies of water, deep, wide, and so, so, blue.
Sometimes they were a still pond. Clear and clean, ripe for one to dip their toes in whenever they felt. People just did things that made them happy, or sad, or angry.
Wednesday thought everyone else had free reign over their feelings. Hers, well, hers were different.
It felt like a pane of glass.
Dense, aquarium glass. Three inches thick and eight feet tall.
So sometimes, when the thrashing waves escaped their enclosure, water would spill over the edge. Not much. But she would feel it, the moisture webbing between her fingers, dripping from the palm of her hand.

Beatrice blinks at the strange answer. “Salvation,” she finally says.
The girl’s lips curl into an amused smile. “And why do you think I need saving?”
Beatrice’s eyes flicker to the rainbow flag by the door involuntarily, and the ice grabs her heart.
