Tommy taps the steering wheel. “So, about that.”
Buck should have known Tommy was going to pull something. Just the way he's driving, mainly sticking with the left side of the highway, as the way to Eddie’s house wasn’t too far from where Buck broke down. He just needed to head to the next exit.

They were wearing what looked like a black mask, and a black hood that covered most of their face.The person didn’t make a sound as they tightened their grip on the ax, pulling it from the shattered remains of the Jeep’s back window and sending shards of glass down onto the ground below. Buck was frozen in place as he watched the person standing over him, their chest rising and falling as they hefted the ax over their head.

Summary
Eddie’s being weird. Like really weird.
Buck knows that he died. Okay? He knows. But he’s like fine now, so? He’s really not seeing what the big deal here is.
Lately, Buck can’t do anything without someone breathing down his neck, and like he expected this from Maddie. His sister has always been slightly overprotective.
But Eddie? Eddie is the calm and collected one. So he’s having a hard time understanding why his best friend is following him around like an attack dog.
Following him around would be one thing because it’s Eddie, so Buck is not going to complain about constantly having him around. But there’s also the touches.
Like today, when they were in the locker room getting ready for work (like they always do) Eddie put his hand on his lower back as he walked by. Which, okay, fine maybe Buck was in the way. But then he just kind of left it there while Buck put his things in his locker.

“Are you a real firefighter?” The boy questions, making Buck buff out a surprised laugh.
Buck smiles down at the boy, “Maddie, I have to go. A child found me.”
“A-a child? Evan, what are you talking about-” Buck doesn’t even hear the rest of what she says before he is hanging up the phone.

Summary
It’s the first time anybody has said aloud that they’re not expecting Buck home tonight. It’s the first time anybody has even suggested that it could be days, even weeks before they see him again. If this were anyone other than Chimney, Eddie would be tempted to hit them, start some kind of fight for even insinuating that this isn’t going to be cut-and-dry. But he knows Chim too well — the man knows to hope for the best and prepare for the worst, and he’s no stranger to losing a brother.
or, Buck goes missing without a trace. All that's left behind is his abandoned phone, signs of a struggle, and everybody that cares about him.
