He tears it open and it’s like ripping a bandage off a wound that hasn’t healed. It takes him several more minutes before he unfolds the pages inside.
He doesn’t see what he expects. What he sees is much, much worse.

Summary
A 14.13 Lebanon rewrite. When Dean uses a wish-granting pearl to try and kill the archangel Michael before he can escape the cage in Dean's head, they instead wind up with a newly-resurrected John Winchester.
It's been more than a decade since John died, and a lot has changed: Mary is alive, Sam and Dean have what passes for a proper home in the Men of Letters Bunker, and they're living with angels. John doesn't know angels are real, he doesn't know about the fragile new relationship between Dean and Castiel, and most of all, he doesn't know that Dean said yes to Michael, or that Dean's plan to defeat Michael would send him to a fate worse than death.
Now Dean must contend with both his father asking questions he can't answer, and his loved ones learning about the darker truths of his childhood, all while constantly battling the archangel trapped inside him. But Dean coming to terms with his history may be the difference between this being the beginning of a journey—or the end.

“It wasn’t you, Sam,” Dean says, as Sam chokes back the last of the whiskey and sets down the glass and curls nails into arm like that’ll make him feel something. “It wasn’t your hands that killed Kevin. Don’t say that. It wasn’t you.”
The way Dean’s looking at him right now makes that statement feel all too true—like whatever body is sitting in Sam’s spot in the bunker library at three in the morning, it’s not actually Dean’s little brother. Sam stares down at those hands, the ones that supposedly belong to him, and picks back up the empty whiskey glass to turn it over in them as he turns Dean’s words over in his mind.
They weren't your hands; it wasn't you.

“Sam?” the man says again and man, it’s like a broken record, “Sam what the fuck,” and this is a waste of time, they’ve already established the man knows Sam’s name. Sam glances at the door, wonders if he can make a run for it. The man mutters something under his breath that sounds a lot like ‘you’ve got to be fucking kidding me.’

Summary
It took Sam a while to notice it. Longer than he’d like to admit. But to be fair to himself, he had been watching for impulses of a more murder-the-world kind, not whatever was going on now.
It all really boils down to this: Dean styles his hair. Which Dean has always done, and Sam has always known. But the hair gel is no longer tucked away in the bottom of his duffel bag; it stays out in the open of the shared bathroom of the Bunker, and Dean doesn’t hide what he’s doing if Sam walks in.
“Heya Sammy,” Dean greets happily, running a hand through his hair.
“Hi,” he says back, nervously watching Dean’s actions.
He’s looking in the mirror, and it’s not until he stopped that Sam realizes Dean’s always flinched at his reflection.
