Summary
“I don’t know, Buck,” Eddie says, “I wasn’t there.” He takes a step forward, a step past Buck, a step out of the kitchen, out of the house, out of LA. Buck’s arm flies up whip fast, hand wrapping around Eddie’s bicep and preventing him from walking any further on his path out of California.
***
Turns out Buck and Eddie weren't quite done fighting after all.

Summary
“It wasn’t going to be a one-night stand, I swear, he had this whole buffet set up. Eddie— he wanted to get back together.” Eddie feels sick at the thought of Tommy getting another shot at breaking Buck’s heart. He’s about to say something along those lines, but Buck steamrolls right over him. “Like, get this. He said that he felt better about us trying again, because the competition was out of the way. The competition, Eddie!”
***
Buck calls Eddie to tell him all about Tommy's crazy accusations of Buck's feelings for him. So crazy, right?Series

Summary
He expected it to be weird the first time, since he still thought of it as Eddie’s house, Eddie’s room, Eddie’s bed, but after he did it once, he figured it broke the seal or whatever. After that, it’d be no big deal.
It’s not. Somehow, it’s worse.
***
Eddie moves to El Paso. Buck moves into Eddie's house. Buck fucks (a lot of) people in Eddie's bed.
To absolutely no one's surprise, it's all about Eddie the whole time.

Summary
And Eddie’s not jealous, of course not, that’s Buck’s thing. He thinks wryly of Tommy and sprained ankles, and an embarrassing fondness fills his chest. Buck’s so— Buck, wholly and completely, and Eddie misses him, is all. But that’s not why he’s doing it, honest. These people don’t appreciate Buck for who he is, not the way Eddie does. He just wants the best for Buck, okay?
***
Eddie brings Christopher home from Texas to find that in his absence, Buck’s started sleeping around.
Eddie is completely normal about that.
(Or, Eddie starts cockblocking Buck. Things escalate from there.)

Summary
Eddie Diaz dies on a sunny afternoon in January.
It seems fitting, he thinks, that it should happen like this: trapped beneath three floors of a collapsed apartment building, a piece of rebar through his right lung, and his eyes on the love of his life.
Because of course Buck is here with him, watching horrified as Eddie’s love and life bleed out around him.
***
Or, Eddie gets hurt on a call and confesses his love for his best friend.

Summary
“We need to talk,” Josh says.
“About what?” Eddie asks. If he were sober, he might feel at least a little bit bad about the pure incredulity in his tone, but as it is, he’s an unknown number of unknown cocktails deep, and can’t get past the fact that he and Josh literally haven’t spoken since Eddie quit dispatch—including at Maddie’s wedding.
“Tommy,” Josh says.
“Tommy?” Eddie asks.
“Tommy,” Josh confirms, nodding solemnly, "and the fact that you hate him."
Or, Josh and Eddie finally have something in common.

Summary
He grasps at consciousness as he listens to Eddie moving around, the bed dipping close to him. Everything smells familiar here, like them, him and Eddie, and the bit of him that’s still able to think realizes he hasn’t been afraid of falling asleep. That he hasn’t been thinking about waking up in that other place, that he hasn’t wondered if he’s halfway to the grave, if he’s going to end up in that not quite right dream again.
That he knows where he belongs, and he wants to keep it. He wants it, desperately wants it, more than anything he’s ever wanted, and he has it, he’s not going to destroy it, and it’s a relief, knowing that.

After getting struck by lightning, Buck’s emotions have been a tidal wave. As always, Eddie’s there to catch him.

Summary
Whenever Buck bullies him into the shower the morning after a shift, Eddie knows he has plans for their child-free day. Eddie always lets him, because he likes this part—an empty house, Buck’s rather insane libido, Eddie’s own libido that has found new legs after he kissed Buck for the first time in their kitchen, and the quiet morning air. Their shift wasn’t too bad, both of them catching a few hours in the bunkroom on adjacent bunks, and while Eddie would like another nap anyway, he’s perfectly happy to follow Buck’s lead.

Summary
“Excuse me,” a distant voice says next to them, “you’re standing right in front of the flour.”
The person sounds a little annoyed. Buck almost doesn’t hear them, with his ears ringing and all; with the taste of Eddie’s spit on his lips. Maybe it’s his nine years of being a first responder that gave him the situational awareness he needed to even notice them at all, considering.
