Summary
“I think I’ve got the timeline now,” James says. “The previously unexplained hospital stay happened several days after Kevin approached us about the transfer. My guess is it took a bit of time out of the… environment… of the Nest for his body to really start feeling the high sugars. And with the state of his injuries, I can’t imagine discerning one pain from another was possible.”
“It’s insane. Everything about it makes perfect sense and none at all. I keep trying to find the words but the only thing coming to my mind is just ‘what the fuck’ on repeat?”
“The more I find out about Edgar Allen, the angrier I get,” Rhemann confesses. “I’m just relieved that Neil dragged him here when he did.”
“Jean’s not,” Jeremy says immediately. “He has creatively threatened his death multiple times.”
“No, I don’t suspect he is,” James says sagely. “But it doesn’t matter, because he’s here to be angry about it.”

Summary
Even from a distance, with the man’s face bruised and maimed, he was stunning. Jeremy’s heart kicked up inside his chest, thumping loud and steady like Ophelia’s thunderous hooves galloping over the earth.
The young man’s mouth twisted. Holding Jeremy’s gaze, he spit a pool of blood into the dirt at his feet.
“I can go on,” he said, his voice ragged and deep.
Jeremy raised his eyebrow once more, his lips stretching into a slow and provocative smile.

Summary
'Don’t look back.’ Nate had spun Jean around and given a firm push between his shoulder blades. ‘I’m right behind you. It’d be suspicious if we both left at the same time. Just go. Now, before he comes back and this’ll all have been for nothing. Trust me, okay?’
Jean had trusted him, then.
Now, he hated Nathaniel for making him believe the words, for knowing Jean would follow his advice to a fault and be reassured by the blind fucking faith he’d had in his partner. For knowing him so damn well that asking for Jean’s trust was all it took to convince him to leave Nate behind.Kevin and Jean escape the Nest; Nathaniel doesn't, and Jean can't accept that. When his Trojan teammates make critical comments about Nathaniel's playing style while watching a Raven match, Jean doesn't know how to defend him. He is again confronted with how he let Nathaniel down and continues to do so.
Jean thinks back to the day he left the Nest—and left his partner behind.
