Summary
That was good, right? Alex, smiling. Eddie was so out of practice in this sort of thing. And even when he had been in practice, he was a disaster at flirting and dating and not having a mental breakdown at the mere idea of commitment. But Alex was smiling at him and joking with him and she hadn’t run off screaming. Yet.
That was as good an omen as anything.
Eddie mustered up all his courage. “Would you like to get dinner with me?”
(In which Eddie Diaz asks a woman on a date and then kisses the love of his life)

Summary
Shannon Diaz née Garrett had a high tolerance for bullshit. You don’t get married at eighteen, become a mom at nineteen, and survive living under the omnipresent gaze of the world’s most… particular in-laws without developing many, many strategies for self-preservation. Every snide remark about Chris’ CP, every passive aggressive comment from Helena Diaz, every vertebra of Eddie’s liquid spine, Shannon took right on the chin with a smile on her face.
But there was no corner of Shannon’s life that she tested her extreme tolerance for bullshit more than whatever the Samwise-and-Frodo, Bert-and-Ernie, Crockett-and-Tubbs hell was going on between her ex-husband and his best friend.
(In which Shannon Diaz née Garrett lives, gets divorced, and helps her ex-husband realize that he’s in love with his best friend)

Summary
Buck groaned, scrubbing a hand over his face. “You’re not listening to me.”
“I’m not gonna die, Buck—”
“I know that,” Buck cut in, “I know that in forty-eight hours you’ll be back to normal, but you don’t have to be miserable for two days just for the sake of punishing yourself! It doesn’t matter if this stupid stomach bug doesn’t kill you, I’m not just gonna leave you here to suffer. If you’re not going to take care of yourself, I’m just gonna have to do it for you. So stop telling me you don’t need anything, and just fucking tell me what you want.”

Summary
So there he was, doomscrolling through Reels of adorable dogs in need of a good home that Buck could very well provide if there wasn't something so fundamentally unlovable about him, when Eddie's contact picture appeared on his screen requesting a FaceTime call. Eddie usually checked in before calling, though that was a formality more than anything. Buck was always going to drop everything and answer Eddie's calls, but he did take a moment to turn off the TV and un-slump himself from the couch cushions before doing so.
Ever since Eddie had left, Buck felt like he was walking around without his left hand, not completely helpless but certainly at a disadvantage. But even just the two-dimensional rendering of Eddie on his phone screen settled something in Buck, almost like he was whole again.
Almost.

Summary
Eddie loved his son. He loved his son so, so much. He would never stop fighting for his son. It didn’t matter if his helicopter was getting shot down in a desert halfway across the world, or if he was nearly drowning while trapped under thirty feet of mud, or if he was crawling on hands and knees back to El Paso in contrition, he was going to do whatever it took to be with Christopher.
But he had also just kissed Buck for the first time ninety minutes ago, and he was supposed to have 1,440 more minutes of kissing before they had to go back to the real world. Eddie had waited seven years for this, he wanted twenty-four hours of uninterrupted necking with the love of his life, god dammit.
