Summary
Despite Furina's desperation to leave the last 500 years behind her, she continues to be haunted by them. She becomes a social recluse in all her shame, caging off old friends and coworkers. What makes matters worse is that the Knave keeps sending her apologetic desserts, and with each one, Furina is more sure that the woman is purposely tormenting her. Furina is terrified at first, but as the Knave keeps weaving herself into Furina's life, Furina finds that she might be the only person who doesn't only see her as Fontaine's poor, former Archon.

Summary
Venti stared at him hard, trying to decode the enigma that was Xiao. “I don’t know,” Venti said. “There’s something about you.” He cocked his head to the side, his eyes half-lidded. His lips were wet with alcohol and spit. “Like I feel like you could save me or something. And not just from nausea.” He said it drunkenly, like the alcohol was catching up to him again.
Xiao wanted to ask, What could I possibly save you from? but despite Venti’s vulnerable words, his eyes were still guarded. Xiao knew he would receive no answer. Instead, he said, “That is a heavy first impression.” It was hypocritical, because Venti had swept Xiao off of his feet the moment he saw him.
Venti smiled, looking down on Xiao. He was a few centimeters taller, even whilst sitting on Xiao’s bed beside his desk. “Probably.”

Summary
Whenever Angel reacts so abnormally to his touch, Aki feels something familiar tug at his heart—despair, pity, the urge to cry. It’s familiar, but it feels wrong in a way, like it shouldn’t be occurring, not at this moment. It’s like seeing your childhood friend after ten years during your 9 to 5. It’s like biting into an apple and tasting spice. It’s like staring at your belongings from when you felt like a different person.
Is it something he should reject? If something is unfamiliar, if the apple doesn’t taste like it’s meant to, should he leave it out to rot? Or should he embrace the new taste?
Aki hasn’t figured it out yet.

Summary
Alicent drinks in the sight in front of her. A woman she’s never seen before bathes in the river—a peculiar woman at that. Alicent wouldn’t have pegged her as a woman at first sight if not for the swell of her breasts peeking above the river water. The stranger has hair shorn to her shoulders, a white blonde that shines beneath the July sun. What Alicent can see of her back is lined with strong muscle, much more defined than the light muscle Alicent builds up working around town—muscle of someone who has seen more than a little town like this. The sunlight glints on a scar down her back, a jagged gash that puckers pink against fair skin. Something stirs deep within Alicent. Who is this and what is she doing in Oldtown? Someone with scars like that can only bring trouble.
The outlaw Rhaenyra Targaryen rides through Oldtown on a sunny July morning, disrupting everything the sheriff's daughter, Alicent Hightower, thought she knew.

Summary
“I’m in love with you,” Aki says tonelessly, tapping his cigarette out. He lets it fall to the sidewalk, turning away before it hits the ground.
“Oh,” Angel says, just as tonelessly. “That’s fucking tragic, Hayakawa.”Bookmarked by anemowisp

Summary
“Your eyes.” Angel says to himself but it’s just loud enough in the otherwise quiet room to draw the other man’s attention. Aki’s typing slows to a stop as he sits back in his chair and blinks, clearly caught off guard from Angel’s seemingly random announcement.
“What?”
“Your eyes.” Angel finds that he has to repeat himself often around this man. Maybe he should add it to his list later. If he remembers. “I don’t like your eyes.”
“Why?” If Aki finds offense to what he just said, he doesn't show it. Angel sets down the pencil that he was toying with earlier and shrugs, not really bothering or wanting to offer an explanation. He’s not obligated to tell his life story or his likes and dislikes with someone- let alone a human.
“Are you owed an explanation?” He expertly dodges Aki’s question with a query of his own.
“I guess not. “Aki replies slowly, “it’s not like I’d care about your opinion anyways.”

Summary
“Fangs,” Venti says.
“What?”
“You have fangs,” he giggles out. “I never noticed them til today. Do all adepti have them?”
Xiao gives Venti a pointed look. “Do you think birds, deer, and old Madame Ping have fangs?”
(when he touches venti, he does not feel like his hands are weapons, cold and bloodstained, cutting into lives and tearing out dreams.)

Summary
“Get nightmares often, huh?”
Xiao looks at him, startled. It takes a moment before something like sullen understanding crosses his face. It’s resigned in a way Venti never is. “Sorry. You should get earplugs. I can’t control it.”
Venti is no good with sadness. It sits in him like a dead weight. He does whatever he can to push it out. "I don’t think those will really help,” Venti says with a laugh.
“The roommate swap is next week. I wouldn’t hold it against you if you left. My roommate last year did the same thing.”
Oh, shit.
Now he can’t leave.
