Summary
Your eyes keep getting caught by the soft curve of a lock of hair, or the way the light hits the line of his nose. Even astrung with jitters, he’s pretty like an old statue. You should tell him that you’re fine! And not distraught, which honestly you thought was a kind of medicine. But your mouth is an awful long way from your voicebox these nights; too long for words to travel, feels like. You just smile wide as a river, wide like sunrise, and hope he gets your meaning.
But he just looks more worried now. “Look, I am sorry about your lusus.” His brow wrinkles into little lines, he chews his lip. “If you are mad about it, you can just tell me.”
Written in 2016 for a series of first kiss drabbles, refurbished a little recently. In this installment: unhealthy ideas about romance. Awe-inspiring miscommunication. Shut-up kisses that turn out better than anyone involved had a right to expect.

Summary
Joker has a habit of quietly effacing himself from perception, but it has never worked on you -- or not recently, anyway. Which is a natural consequence of becoming more involved in your rival’s life. Of course you’d be more aware of his presence than previously; of course you’d be able to see through his pathological lurking.
Something of a style-test. Arguably written for #GoroWeek2019 day 2: Angst, but mainly written as an excuse to shoehorn my favorite poem into a fic title. Spoilers for the end of November.

The pressure came first, Ned's hand closing on Lucas's suit jacket, and Lucas could feel the damp sticky squeeze, a sluggish lukewarm trickle soaking into the waist of the stupid matching slacks. Then it hurt, but only for a second, before Ned tensed in surprise, which was a bittersweet second-place prize: he really hadn't noticed anything, then, really hadn't guessed there was anything wrong. Lucas must not have done too bad a job, till now.
"What the hell," Ned said, yanking his hand away. "What is that? Lucas, you're—that's blood. You're bleeding."
"Yeah," Lucas admitted. "Sorry. I—I can't."

Not for the first time, Jackson wonders why he agreed to this partnership. But there’s something he can’t quite put his finger on, something about the soft, hapless, helpless way March loves his daughter and knows what a screwup he is, that makes something funny happen inside Jackson’s chest. He hasn’t eaten yet today but it feels almost like his stomach is twisting, like he’s about to do something stupid and completely out of his own control even though Jackson Healy has always prided himself on how well he keeps himself under control.
Not food poisoning, Jackson thinks. March poisoning.
