This might be where she dies. She knew that the moment she jumped. The Straka is relentless, with its jaw of jagged metal, clamping down and forcing her onto her knees.
She squeezes her eyes shut, presses a button. Bursts of fireworks go off behind her, blinding the thing from the inside. No defense. She'll do whatever she can to keep this thing at bay, to keep it from attacking her friends. Her family.
She might die here.
Or
Olethra jumps into the mouth of The Straka and comes to terms with death. Too bad Torse and Max decide to jump in after her.

“Your life is for the pack.” Chan's father, the Pack Alpha, had told him as a mere pup, and he had never dared to question it.
As he grew older, he started to understand exactly what that meant for him.
even as an unpresented pup, Chan was not given the luxury of play like his litter mates. He learned to hunt and fight alongside the other alphas in his pack. To provide and protect like a Pack Alpha should.
Because of this, it took many years for Chan to make his first friend.
Minho was quiet and reserved. Level-headed, dependable, even at such an early age. His presentation as an alpha was a blessing for his family, not a necessity.
Chan took a quiet liking to Minho. The younger pup was kind and caring and Chan admired it.
Minho admired Chan in turn.
