“Have you threatened every person in this castle?” She hissed. “Because I haven’t heard a word of my incompetence in three and a half weeks, and only after tricking some poor unfortunate footman into speaking halfway ill of me does he break down nearly into tears and beg me to please not tell you what he’s said.”
A faint pink blushed onto the tips of his ears. He didn’t say anything, but he didn’t have to. It was an unwilling admission of guilt.
“Would you prefer they gossip about you, Your Highness?” His eyes lifted back to hers only when he finished speaking, and for a single moment, she was frozen under his stare. He had asked in sincerity, without any disingenuousness.
The audacity, to ask such a question. “No,” she said, her voice falling flat. Insulting, that a man who so rarely used his voice could so easily put her in her place with it. He hadn’t even really meant to.
For just a moment, she stared at him, waiting for him to lord his victory over her as he had so well earned. But instead he just kept staring earnestly at her, as if it were her turn to disclose, as if she was the one holding out on him.
Finally, blessedly, he spoke again. “What would you have me do instead?”

3rd(?) fic read since first watch of the anime in 2024.
2nd fic read after 2025 rewatch of anime + after finishing reading the novels til vol 13HOLY GUACAMOLE AÀAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! THIS IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. THIS NEEDS TO BE AT THE TOP OF THE FANDOMS BEST FICS!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAA OMG
honestly I thought I wouldn't be satisfied coz I usually dislike short fics, BUT HOLY GUACAMOLE THIS IS PERFECT!!!!!!! THIS IS *THE* MOST SATISFYING 1K WORD FIC IVE EVER READ (and I've read THOUSANDS in ao3)
First of all, the writing is absolutely AMAZING!!!! I love authors writing style omg. It feels like the exact same as the Canon light novels, except it's satisfying coz it's full of shinlena (and dear LAWD,, the kissing scenes were written perfectly! I kept being amazed at how the author wrote and described the kiss, it was so steamy and romantic)
2nd. I love the small details so much, like the Para-FAID app, the fact Lena is top performing, Eugene forcing Shin in idol duties, Shin being coldhearted but surprisingly the best in his field, the garter, Lena's kindness, shinlena's teasing sides... and especially the "this is a face I'll go to war for". That comment is my favorite line of all. Itperfecttly brought the idea of war, like in the novel, into this wholesome au fic. l just absolutely love it. Usually AU fics suck because it feels like the characters are just placed in a trope fanfic, but because of all the small details, it makes the story feel cohesive with Canon, as if this idol AU fic can truly exist in the 86 world.
Third, and the best part... the characterization is PERFECT. It feels exactly like the Canon anime and novel. The way Lena gets embarrassed, the way no one curses, the way Shin goes all needy and soft on Lena, the way they tease each other, the way Lena pouts... it feels exactly the same as their characters in Canon. I just really love fics that get the characterization perfect, it's really hard to do.
Lastly... my eyes couldn't even focus on absorbing the text and imagining it because my brain kept gettimg distracted fangirling while reading HAHA
I just really love this fic. It has the perfect Shin simping, he is seriously way too hot. It has the perfect shinlena romantic ,moments with the hot kissing scene. And plus, the way shinlena was written kept reminding me of how me and my boyfriend are... it's really nice how sweet and steamy and romantic this fic is. I love it. AND I SO RELATE WITH LENA-- I WOULD SHIP MY BOYFRIEND WITH HIS FRIEND AND THEN REALIZE I WOULD TOTALLY WATCH THEM MAKEOUT LIKE A YAOI FANGIRL HAHA (and I can totally see shin reacting with disgust just like how my boyfriend would whenever I'd mention it)
ALSO MAN. SHIN IN GLASSES AND A SUIT DOING A BODYROLL?!?!? AAAAAAA GAHD ID PAY TO SEE THAT. ISTG I BADLY WISH THIS FIC WAS DRAWN OR ANIMATED AAAAAAA,,,,,, one of my favorite kpop idol moments ever was when kyungsoo did his body roll. And omg I'd die with shin doing that, in a SUIT with HOT GLASSES and a WINK?!?!?
