Surprised by the sudden and completely unsolicited comment, Xiangling looks up from her wok, tracing her father's eye to said Mr. Zhongli, leaning over an antique vase at one of the roadside stores. In her time at Wanmin Restaurant, however, she has certainly seen her fair share of strange customers, so after a moment, she just turns back to her frying, flipping the xianbing in the wok over one by one.
"Why do you say that?" she asks, reaching across the counter for the cooking oil.
"Dearest daughter," Chef Mao says then, "he is lecturing the seller on the origins of his own vase."
Liyue Harbor is hive full of incorrigible gossips. Xiangling navigates the rumor mill, goes ingredient hunting with Zhongli, and in the process, finds out that Zhongli is very, very bad at pretending to be human.

In perplexed, tense silence, Zhongli watched as the man who called himself Ajax stepped out of the cafe door, wondering if somewhere, somehow, the crumbling remains of Celestia were laughing at him.

Silence returned for a stretch of time, and for a while, Childe had thought his lover had finally fallen fast asleep, but then a sound entered his head, right past his ears. It was a soft rumble, followed by a sweet, songlike chirp, the very noises Zhongli made only when he was very, very, very comfortable, enough to let his adeptal form take shape in some capacity.
"Ajax... tired. So tired..."
While working in the Northland Bank, Ajax suddenly finds his mind deluged by his lover's strange thoughts. When he arrives home, he finds Zhongli mellow and docile as a strange adeptal device plays soothing music.

The last thing he remembered was using his Delusion against Ursa to protect his son. He felt the Delusion’s power course through his body, driving Ursa away. Then…. Nothing, like he had passed out or worse from using it.
