He noticed Alhaitham’s teal eyes were dilating while their eyes met. As piercing as the rays of sunlight through the stained glass of their shared house, or the dappled light that filtered through the verdant leaves on the great Sumeru tree. The same eyes he’d caught wandering to him when Kaveh was deep in thought… Back when things were simpler in the Akademiya, before their connection had soured, when they could sit together on the roof of the House of Daena and study for hours and hours.
“I’d almost forgotten how pretty your eyes were.” Kaveh thought to himself.
Then he realized the thought had actually left his mouth. Kaveh cursed and buried his face in his hands, mortified enough to want the clothes in the closet to swallow him whole.
“Yours are prettier.” Alhaitham murmured, his lips curling upward in a smile as he gently took Kaveh’s hands off of his face, rubbing small circles on them in soothing motions. “It’s been a long time since you actually let me look at them…” Alhaitham’s voice trailed off. Alhaitham never trailed off!
He seemed to be entranced by something in Kaveh’s eyes.

This is just absurd. He’s spent months making sport of this man, slipping away from escorts, inventing detours, and testing precisely how far Valeriy’s patience can be stretched before it snaps. He has treated Valeriy’s relentless presence as though it were a law of nature — the sun rises every morning, snow falls in Snezhnaya, and Valeriy will always be there to drag him back to work.
It never occurred to Mitya that one morning the sun might rise and Valeriy might not.
“I took you for granted, alright?”

At that, Dottore has finally looked at him. He was used to their conversation always getting a little dull after some time, so he would always play the piano to kill time, however, this was a first time he has heard Pantalone suggest an exchange.
"What do you suggest then?"
"What about… We make a bet." There's a smile in the corner of Pantalone's lips. Not a soft or genuine one. But one filled with… Something Dottore isn't too sure what it is. "I will go a week without smoking."
"In exchange for?" Dottore crosses his arms. He is very interested.
"You will go a full week without your mask, living as you would normally with it."
OR
Dottore learns he is more expressive than he thought and this is going to make his day hell. Pantalone suffers from withdraw of nicotine.

As much as he had loathed to admit it the first time, Kaveh eventually finds that relinquishing control to Al-Haitham when they play like this isn’t so bad. Not when the end results are always much more promising, when he’s finally allowed to take Al-Haitham apart, piece by piece; to revel in the sights, the sounds of Al-Haitham unfurling and breaking beneath him.
Kaveh wants to prove that he's good; very, very good. And Al-Haitham, reasonable man that he is, eventually permits it.

Not to mention it might be dangerous for both of them. But his curiosity is insatiable, and he's greedy when it comes to learning, so he finds himself sharing this ridiculous idea with Kaveh, "Do you want to have sex with me?"
After interacting with a leyline, Kaveh turns into a slime. Not wanting to waste this opportunity, Alhaitham suggests conducting an "experiment".
