It was one night, with Kai sitting on the edge of his bed applying an over-the-counter ibuprofen gel on his sore muscles, that the young man realised that he liked the pain.
It wasn't a revelation that surprised him by any means, just a distant voice in his head that had made him aware. Countless days spent overworking, dozens of medical supplies used up within just a couple of months, seemingly endless minor injuries on his own behalf, and Kai most definitely liked it.
