Summary
Christmas, 1986.
More than half the town of Hawkins evacuated when the first earthquake hit in the spring. For those that stayed, life is carrying on as normal. Or as close to normal as it can get. Sometimes lights flicker, you get used to it.
Then Max Mayfield wakes up from her eight month long coma and it's hard to pretend things are ever going to be the way they used to.

“You’re, like, two hours early, dude,” Will says.
“I thought I was late,” a voice that is definitely not Steve’s replies.
Will gulps and drags his eyes up the long form that is Mike Wheeler.
His eyes catch on ratty converse. Ripped jeans. A Black Sabbath t-shirt. Mike is practically swimming in the black leather jacket hanging from his frame. His long hair is unkempt and he’s smirking at Will.
“I thought you were Steve,” Will says when he collects himself.
“Nope,” Mike replies. “Cooler than him.” He shifts on the balls of his feet, shoving his hands into his pockets. Quietly he asks, “I’m still invited to this right?”
Will chuckles, a light sound. “Yeah. Of course you are.”

Summary
This case was supposed to get Dean off of the bench. Maybe get Cas back in the game, too. It might be the end of all that.
Dean and Cas investigate a series of strange double homicides. The common link between them all? Their realtor and a couple houses. They go on a few tours. They kill the thing responsible for the deaths of a few couples. Dean realizes a couple things.

“Everything he does is for them!” She’s yelling now. Dean takes a step away from her, his eyes wide. “And then, on top of that,” she hisses, her voice going eerily quiet. “They abandon him.”
“When?” Dean asks.
“Whenever it’s convenient,” she says, cutting Dean like a knife. “You want to know the worst part?”
“What?” He’s nervous, now. Scared she’s going to read him like an open book. But, apparently, she already has.
“No one ever tells him they love him.”

Cas comes back. It's not exactly the reunion that Dean is expecting.

Dean stares at him, flummoxed. Cas quite literally poured his heart out to Dean, gave a truly sappy and distressingly romantic speech and everything, then proceeded to give his life so that Dean could live his. And he wants to act like he doesn't want to see Dean, be around him, touch him?
Actually, Dean's ninety-nine percent sure that Cas probably wants to fuck him, and while he has no clue how he feels about that, he's pretty goddamn sure that means Cas doesn't get to act like this and make it authentic.
It feels strangely real, though, as if Cas wants nothing more than to get as far away from him as possible. This is a blatant contradiction. Even someone as weird as Cas doesn't want to get away from the person they have the desire to fuck five ways to Sunday, that they're in love with. That's not how these things work, so Dean isn't buying it.

Summary
As a grease monkey turned college freshman, Dean's constantly three seconds away from being stressed out of his mind. It hardly helps that he's finally figuring out his sexuality in his thirties.
What might help with that stress is a little phone number (and a big credit card bill). If he can't figure out how to be bisexual in person, he can at least give it a go over the phone, right?
(It's probably a bad idea, but he really can't help himself.)
