“The pandemic did weird things to everyone’s mental state,” Taub counters. “Thirteen gave herself bangs. House still has that sourdough starter.”
“You leave Candy out of this,” House says absentmindedly, frowning at a bloodwork chart.
“Candy?” Thirteen mutters under her breath, confused.
“He named his starter,” Chase sighs. “It’s short for Candidiasis.”
“Why would he name it after—oh.” Thirteen grimaces. “Yeast. Ha ha. That’s gross.”
----------
Does House subconsciously want to become a vampire? His conscious mind is less than thrilled at the prospect. Being a mind-reader would be like turning on all the lights at a strip club, or peeling off the stickers on a Rubik’s cube. The game would lose its fun.

"Three," says Wilson. "Two. One."
The dropping of the ball is really not that spectacular, but the way the crowd cheers, you'd think their team just won the World Series.
"People are idiots," House says.
Wilson raises his glass. "Happy New Year, House."
House is smiling at him, finally, and the hard lines of his face are softened by that, and the dim light, and the alcohol. He answers Wilson's toast with a clink.
"Happy Everything, Wilson."

"Did you get that roast?" House asks.
Wilson doesn't look up from where he's repacking the clean laundry into the duffel bag and pillowcases.
"I got a chicken," he says. "A roasting hen. It was the only thing they had left." He pulls the edges of the duffel bag close and even and zips it up. "It's Christmas Eve, remember? Everything was picked over." The smile hints at a return. "All the good stuff was gone."
Not all the good stuff, House thinks. Not all the good stuff.

Mandy shook her head. "You have nothing to worry about, doc. I'm a graduate of Gina Divino's Cut-N-Up Hair and Nail Salon Beauty Nook -- cum laude and first in my class." She looked critically at the doc's hair and smoothed back one sideburn with her thumb.
"Got some gray goin' on there," she said. "Want me to touch that up a little?"
"I don't need ... " The doctor paused and squinted to see himself in the fogged-up mirror. "You could do that?"
