Summary
“You never relax, man! It’s okay to just – breathe sometimes. I mean, jeez, I’m a woman, not a scorpion. No one’s gonna kill you for laughing at my jokes.”
Ray hums at a frequency that conveys, distinctly: Someone will definitely kill me for laughing at your jokes.
Twila seems to get it. “Cheryl’s not even here.”
Spring returns to Moscow.

Summary
Bianca’s mother taught her the rules of dealing with fey. Don’t give them your name, don’t eat their food. Never invite them in.
Maybe if she had listened better, she wouldn’t be tangled up in this mess.
(Or: Bianca and Vic meet in college. Years later, they find that old habits die hard.)

Summary
“You never answered the question,” Bianca says as she swallows down the last of the orange slice and licks the juice off her lips. “Who’s your dream guy?”
“Oh. Is that what we were talking about?”
Bianca nibbles at the very top corner of the last slice. This one she eats differently. Tugs a hole in the skin and then sucks out all the juices like it’s an Otter Pop. Vic watches in rapt awe as she empties the piece of fruit and then swallows it whole.
At thirteen, Vic and Bianca are the very best of friends. By twenty-three, they’re barely on speaking terms. Vic thinks this is monstrously unfair: they might be marrying Bianca’s father, but that shouldn’t mean anything needs to change between the two of them.

Summary
At the end of it all, the crew of the Vengeance builds a life together on the seaside. But the world is in the grip of a new ice age, gunfights define the clashes between the countless gangs and cults roaming the land, and the only magic left in the material plane is untamed and dangerous. None of them can bring themselves to stay in one place for long, not when there are so many people in need.
So, twenty years after the Blight, they’re scattered to the four winds. Hamid is revered by a cult for purifying the world of magic, even as he secretly researches the lingering power in Guivres’s and Apophis’s bones; Azu leads a wandering band of healers with Kiko and their daughters at her side; and Cel, Zolf, and Wilde roam the seas and sky with their crew of academics, searching for a way to reconnect the planes.
Cel succeeds. There is a path to reclaiming magic, though it comes at a steep price – one they will need the others’ help to reckon with.

No one has ever seen Light’s soul, but it haunts his dreams as a monster: eyes bloody as sunrise, feathers tasting of citrus and sharpie fumes, breath hot as summer and twice as brutal. At first, he thinks the notebook itself is his soulmate. Then he tells himself Misa can be enough.
L ruins everything. For the first time, someone sees Light’s soul, and through his eyes Light knows it must look monstrous – why else would L be hunting him over it?

Summary
In the twisting underbelly of London, blood runs black and explosions are the closest thing to flowers.
Sasha drags the monochrome of her home up to the surface with her. Drags the violence and scruffiness and brutality of it into the light. Of course, as far as reminders go, he could do far worse – Hamid likes Sasha.
(Snapshots of Hamid and Sasha’s friendship, from beginning to bitter end.)
