Ominis overhears a conversation about the Gaunt family - about himself, in particular - in the Three Broomsticks and considers never setting foot in public again. Fortunately Sebastian always knows the right things to say.

“Listen to me.” Sebastian scuffed his chair impossibly closer, his knee nudging against Ominis’s. “You’re not like your family, you know that. They’re not even your family anymore. They’re nothing to you, just a name.”
Ominis wished it was that easy, that he could simply erase his parents from his memory, from his blood. Without meaning to say it, he asked, “Do I really look like my father?”

Summary
After the incident in the catacombs, Ominis can't bring himself to speak to Sebastian any longer. He cuts ties altogether and learns how to go about his routine while pretending Sebastian no longer exists. That works for a while, until seventh year.
Unfortunately, when Professor Shah pairs them up for an assignment, Ominis has no choice but to speak to him again.
Ominis doesn't trust him any longer but he can't deny that Sebastian seems different, almost like the version of himself that was Ominis's best friend before the dark arts took him away.
Gradually, Ominis begins to think their friendship - and maybe a deeper relationship - might not be beyond saving.

The room is too bright.
It’s quaint, in a nauseating sort of way. Polished floors glint from the gleaming honeycomb chandeliers overhead, make him squint. A few vases sprinkled here and there, filling the room with a sickeningly sweet scent – even a waffle-cone headrest framing the silken sheets of a neatly-tucked bed. Outside, the golden sun gleams, the gentle rays of light spilling past curtains that waver in the afternoon breeze.
It's meant to be beautiful. Luxurious. Welcoming.
With one sweep of his cane, Shadow Milk tears it apart.
