Summary
Well, Xie Lian certainly feels fine. His spiritual energy reserves remain untouched. His physical form, as healthy as ever. And his mind, unfettered and free of worldly disturbances.
There was only one slight… nuisance.
He couldn’t seem to stop speaking today.
Xie Lian gets afflicted with a particularly troublesome truth-telling curse from a malicious spirit. Hua Cheng deals with it.

Summary
Hua Cheng waved a dismissive hand. "I'm not asking gege for an apology; I know you were trying to protect me. It's just that I always meant to tell you this..." He paused, waiting for Xie Lian to peer at him evasively. "None of your talismans are very effective on ghost kings, including the Trance Talisman."
Together, Hua Cheng and Xie Lian devise a talisman guaranteed to be effective on even the most powerful ghost.

Summary
The worst part about the coffin was not the experience, it was others learning about it.
---
“The coffin.” Hua Cheng whispers. “It was a long time, wasn’t it?”
Xie Lian opens his mouth, denial on the tip of his tongue.
He takes in an unsteady breath, ashamed to find his eyes burning with the effort to hold back tears, then blurring with his failure to do so.
“…It was.”

Summary
Hua Cheng lowers his hand, and both Feng Xin and Mu Qing crash to the floor. Feng Xin winds up with rugburn on his cheekbone and a dislocated shoulder, getting the better end of the deal than Mu Qing, whose nose is gushing blood between his fingers. Payback for earlier, at least—but his satisfaction is short-lived when Xie Lian hiccups a sob on the divan and then breaks into a string of rapid cries so panicked they sound painful. He slaps at the cushions of the divan, terror escalating, eyes wide open.
“Help, help, help, help,” he gasps between cries. “Help me. Help me. Please. Please!”
When a tongueless spirit appears in the south and curses ghosts, gods, and mortals alike with catatonia, Hua Cheng, Mu Qing, and Feng Xin must work together to solve the mystery behind the curse and save Xie Lian from the horrors ravaging his mind.
They may never find a cure, however, if the villagers plagued by the spirit don’t stop lying to them at every turn.

Summary
Xie Lian had survived his entire life without batting an eye when stabbed or mutilated or trampled. He survived the first part—banished and mortal—and then grew to brush past the gritty details of pain. No one was born like that, but Xie Lian knew that if you lived through something enough times, you would eventually keep it—live like that, always—and one stab wound wasn’t going to kill him. In a rare instance of frustration, Xie Lian really thought Hua Cheng was blowing this out of proportion.
(or: xie lian hides so many injuries, including some of the worst, and hua cheng steeps in habitual anger as the record builds and builds. it comes to a breaking point, as all things do.)
