Title - Bitter Water by The Oh Hellos
"Get up!" Hannah, the Keeper, hissed at Tommy. She ripped the thin sheets off his small bed and shook him. "Up! Someone's here to see you and I'll be damned if you mess it up again for me."
Tommy groans and reluctantly follows her, rubbing his eyes, wincing at the cold stone floor under his bare feet.
"The man's a Vampire Hunter and specifically asked to see you. So you will be polite and not swear and not fuck this up for me." She turns to glare at Tommy, and he squirms under her gaze but nods. Then rolls his eyes at her hypocrisy as soon as she turns around.
The two turn the corner, the only sound each other's breathing, the storm raging outside, and the click-clack of Hannah's heeled boots on the stone bricks. Tommy turns to follow Hannah and stops in fear and awe. The man in front of him is around six feet in height and powerfully built.
The man turns and Tommy catches a glimpse of a smiling white mask. "Hello, I'm Dream." The man says, his green cloak swishing.

“An open kneecap fracture—” Tommy heaved through the pain.
“The signs?”
Tommy was dying. He was dying. He let out another scream as Dream bent his leg back further.
“Swelling, immobility in the leg, bone protruding from the skin, deformed patella—” He could feel the way that his kneecap was somehow shifting further up. A stupid mistake; he should have just said it. With one final push, Tommy felt his leg harshly hit the stone of the floor.
“Say it.”
“I am misery.”
