The figure had none of Edwin’s prim and proper urgency, lacked his drive, his grace. Whoever the boy at the end of the hallway was, his spirit had been truly and thoroughly broken. As he approached, Charles saw that he was wrong—that boy was Edwin, just not any version of him Charles had ever seen.

For a moment Dick looked utterly stricken, but that was all the reaction that Jason got. It wasn’t like he wanted the man to drape himself over Jason in an overdramatic puddle of tears, but something would have been nice. Maybe a hug that lasted between 5-12 seconds. Maybe a solitary man-tear that slipped its way down Dick’s face. Anything that indicated ‘I’m so glad my brother came back from the dead because I grieved him in his absence.’
