Summary
Mike took the stairs two at a time, tears blurring his vision, and slipped back into his room, remembering only last second to do it softly. He knew Jonathan meant well, but what would he say if he knew about all of it? If he knew about the hours of staring at Will, the thoughts that wouldn't stop spinning in Mike's head, the stain on Mike's soul, the wicked, wrong thing he couldn't escape, couldn't seem to fix?
Mike curled back up on his bed, facing away from Will. He couldn't look at him now, especially not now.
"Mike, you okay? Will's voice whispered, a little husky with sleep, worry bleeding into his words, and Mike pressed himself deeper into his blankets.
"Fine. Go back to sleep." Mike squeezed his eyes shut, begging Will to drop it. Will shifted and for a second Mike thought he'd say something else, but he stayed silent. He hated how he ached with it, that silence. It was what he'd wanted, but still it left him feeling hollow.

The Byers have lived with the Wheelers for 3 months now, and it's getting harder for Mike to push down the feelings lurking beneath the surface, especially with Will sleeping next to his bed and nightmares startling him awake every night.
