He’s still thinking about what Ben said as he turns the token in his fingers, I kept it in my wallet echoing in his head and making him feel oddly unsettled.
“This is a token from the Capitol Theatre,” he says quickly. He goes to throw it in the fire, but something stays his hand. A feeling of wrongness he can’t place.
I kept it in my wallet.
“You brought an actual token?”
For twenty-seven years.
The sudden headrush he gets looking over at Eddie is overwhelming as the memory snaps into place. It’s like the wind has been knocked clean out of his chest, a feeling like deja vu but with a stronger emphasis on nausea that has Richie fearing a repeat performance of the fire escape at his last show.

Richie’s eyebrows fly into his hair. “Geeze, Eddie, tell me how you really feel.”
“Gladly,” Eddie says, blatantly ignoring the sarcasm. He pokes Richie a little harder this time and continues. “Your hair is too flat. You’re not wearing your glasses and I hate it. Your clothes fit properly and your shoes are clean, Jesus Christ.”
Richie blinks once, twice. “You’re mad because I...did my hair?”
“Yes!” Eddie bursts out, and he pokes Richie one more time for good measure.

Richie catches Eddie's eye and smiles at him, just for a second. Smiles at the boy who has his legs tucked up to his chest where he sits between Mike and Bill, wearing a sweater that's a size too big. Maybe two. He has it rolled up at the sleeves because his tiny wrists are drowning in it. Eddie smiles back, in that small way he does, like he doesn't want to let on that he actually tolerates Richie Tozier at all.

Richie promises letters and calls and tells them all how much he loves them, really does love them, and then it’s Eddie. He doesn’t say anything, pulls Eddie into his chest, as close as he can possibly get him. Eddie’s arms are wrapped around his waist and Richie wants to live in this moment forever if he can. They don’t let go for what seems like years in Richie’s head, and then they do, and Richie decides it’s the most wonderful time to do something very stupid. He leans in, a little, and kisses Eddie."

Summary
He doesn’t know if he’ll like kissing Richie. A part of him is assuming not, based on the experiences he’s had for - oh, just the entirety of his adult life - but he at least wants to try.
Richie is looking at him now, expression expectant. Waiting for him to say something, he realises, because he’s been staring at the table and mulling over his own thoughts for too long. He can see the return of the nervousness in the slope of Richie’s shoulders and instantly wants to take it away again.
“I think that we should kiss,” he says boldly, stomach twisting in the same way that he imagines falling from a great height would feel. Invigorating. Terrifying. “I want to try.”
“You wanna - yeah. Uh, yeah, we can do that,” Richie swallows audibly. Eddie tracks the movement of his throat, mouth drying in an instant.
It’s this - these moments - where he suspects that, actually, he might like kissing Richie. He might like kissing Richie a lot.

“The thing about this order is that I’m completely obsessed with it. I get plenty of strange and elaborate orders from people every day, but the thing about this coffee is that it wasn’t elaborate. It wasn’t some soy frappe one and a half shot hazelnut monstrosity, it was the most basic form of coffee, with a single totally random little add on. It was the order of a simple, regular man who has something wrong with him.”

Let the record show that Eddie’s divorce had little to nothing to do with Richie, because this isn’t a made-for-TV rom-com and that just isn’t how things work. But the cosmic symmetry of Derry’s influence on their lives appears to have been in full effect when Richie decided to fly out to New York City for the sole purpose of helping Eddie settle into his new apartment in Brooklyn.
Because that forced Eddie to admit to himself that, yeah, he’d been a little bit in love with Richie when they were kids.
