Summary
Jonathan Sims is a first time English professor at a lower tier university in London who absolutely hates poetry. Unfortunately, he has been put in charge of a poetry class. Despite his reluctance, he vows to make this the most comprehensive poetry class he can. His students will EARN their grades, and he will accept nothing less than perfect form! Half rhymes get half marks!
Martin Blackwood is a former employee of a tea shop who adores poetry. After spending several years working part time jobs to support himself and his ailing mother, he has managed to scrap together enough funds and a high school equivalency diploma so that he can take some courses and get a job where he won't have to be on his feet all day. Delighted to have room in his schedule for one elective, he naturally pursues a poetry class. Unfortunately, his new professor hates the subject. And he seems to hate Martin, too.
Then Tim decides to get the whole class to write increasingly sappy love poetry about their professor to hand in as assignments for a prank and despite refusing to take part, somehow this still makes things worse for Martin specifically.

When a volunteer is needed to infiltrate an elite club, Javert knows that he’s the only one who has the knowledge to achieve access to this circle of men rumored to indulge in scandalous things. With an invitation to a large mansion near Saint-Cloud in his hand, Javert arrives to mingle with a crowd of wealthy, kinky men, bringing harness, bridle, riding crop—and Jean Valjean, to compete in the yearly championship of stallions.
With the jingling of metal, the red stallion came forward, eying Valjean resentfully. The bit in his mouth kept him from speaking, but even so the derision in his eyes said clearly enough what it was he thought of the steed Javert had brought. Where Valjean's body was rippling with muscle, scarred by the whip and tanned by work in the sun, Red's body was smooth and pale, taut from gentle exercise rather than backbreaking labor.
Next to him, Valjean trembled. Javert hadn't yet put a bridle on him. There were no reins to pull him back when Valjean's temper rose once more and he took a threatening step forward with such an expression that the pretty red stallion took an instinctive step back.

“I saw you jump,” Valjean’s voice says, as if it’s that simple.
Maybe, to him, it is.
Valjean pulls Javert from the river. You know how it goes.

No further questions were asked. It happened like in a dream – a nightmare, Valjean thought to himself, but it was not terror that made his body shake. He allowed himself to be undressed, trembling as he had not trembled since that one day so long ago when they had riveted the iron collar behind his head and stripped all humanity from him. Now, once more he was stripped, although the hands were gentle and nearly reverent, shaking with the unholy desire the drink had brought about.

The creature’s name sounded like Val-jean, if translated into French. Javert had studied the languages and ways of demons, and if he cared to, would make a very correct estimate of its spelling: 𐊀ሂኒƯጤጢ. Now, ‘Valjean’ fancied himself a man, and gave himself the moniker of a saint. Well, he wanted to give the impression of his humble humanity to the unsuspecting innocents. And what a perfect deceit it had been, certainly only a demon could cast such an illusion.
Even Javert himself, decades in the Inquisition and raised by the church, had spent many months suspicious, but uncertain, of the good Mayor Madeleine. The list of evidence was long now; and all of the efforts of charity and municipal improvement could only be a guise for his nefarious plans.
Inquisitor Javert is haunted by nightly visions of Valjean after the events of Montreuil-sur-Mer but when their paths cross again many years later, perhaps Valjean is not the beast he was always accused of being.
