“No. Not..” Edward sighed and laid back down, facing away. Ling was pushing his luck. The conversation made him feel strange. “I don’t see why it matters. It’s just a hypothetical. We have real things to worry about.”
Ling was silent for a long moment.
“...You’re right.”
Six years after the Promised Day, Edward Elric finds himself reading a letter on the train ride out of Aerugo. It's an invitation from Xing, sealed with the Emperor's seal, and signed by none other than Ling Yao. He had his doubts, especially after showing up two whole weeks late, but he was still looking forward to it.
He never imagined that in just five days, everything could crumble.

“You have a long life-line,” Edward says, hushed, tracing the long crease in the middle of Ling’s palm.
He stares for too long at those eyes, sifting through them, but not for answers. He’s looking for nuggets of pyrite, little pieces of deception or faux affection. He finds nothing but pure, perfect gold. “What?”
“Your hands.” Turning Ling’s hand around so he can see, he runs a finger down the center line. “Your life-line is long. Longer than most people’s.”
“Life-line?”

In these unusual dreams, Ed feels his breath hitch and his eyes full of tears as someone he doesn’t dare to name kisses all of his most sensitive spots, his ear lobes and his neck and his stomach with such care and devotion and adoration. When he wakes up, Ed still feels the ghost of someone’s hands over his arms and legs and back.

Summary
Winry insists on scheduling Lan Fan for frequent tune-ups to her new automail, as Lan Fan gets used to having it and learns the ins and outs of its inner workings, since internal problems are easy to miss when the owner isn't an automail expert.
Lan Fan doesn't mind the appointments. She enjoys them, really, despite the lectures and the fussing and the mechanical talk she hardly understands.

Summary
If Ling is to speak honestly, he didn’t think Edward would take the deal.
Edward is quite a prideful person who refuses to bend to authority. If he did not want to do it, he simply would not. If he did not like how you spoke to him, mainly in regards to his height, then he made sure that you knew. Always defending himself, his freedom and autonomy.
Greed knew this. In the memories Ling could see of the previous Greed, he may know this better than he thought he did. Better than Ling. The thought leaves a sour taste in Ling’s mouth.
