Summary
Sometimes love can be messy, non-linear, and complicated.
Sometimes that makes us run from it; sprinting away from the other’s desertion of you.
Sometimes you poke and prod, spewing triggers, knowing precisely how to cage your heart; making the ones who want hell and all of your worst just want you more.
But, sometimes the fight we go through in order to keep that love, means it’s worth it. It means it’s enough.And sometimes your ex-situationship shows up at your doorstep, following a half-year hiatus. So when you instinctively fight and fly, running for the hills while screaming “I hate you,” it’s met with further unyielding opposition.

“Love isn’t keeping people at bay, just to wash them up on shore when they dipped their toes in. It’s inviting people to swim with you, whether they drown you or keep you afloat. That gamble is what love is about.”
“I shouldn’t have to ask you to stay!”

"Sokka stares at the blank wall in front of him. The more he burns holes into the white plaster with his eyes, the more the memories seep from his brain and onto the wall. The shadows cast by the dawn outside morph and dance around. One room. Two people. He inhales the scent of past whispers and intimidation. The imperceptible white hues shift in Sokka’s vision, portraying a younger version of himself, and someone who, to him, is now a ghost."

Summary
Taking care of each other became routine, comfort as soothing to give as it was to receive. And yet, it always came as a surprise when Abby was the one to fall. He was always the strong one, and even though they knew he was in pain, months, sometimes years of toughing it out dulled the memory. Sometimes it was easy to forget his patterns burned just as cruelly as the rest of them.
Sometimes it even caught Abby off guard, the realization that he had reached his limit. He knew he wasn’t strong enough to hold on forever—Gwi-Ma made sure he knew that, in fact—but so often the shame of weakness, of needing help, kept him pushing himself longer than necessary, that he forgot he could not do so forever.

Abby dealt with chronic pain in life, and sold his soul for strength. Centuries later, and he’s as strong as ever… but Gwi-Ma never let him forget the pain.
Luckily, when it’s too much to handle, the other boys are there to help.
