He says: that’s when the static started in both ears, worse in the left than the right, but both weren’t great. He says: some mornings I woke up and it was like I heard everything like I was under water, but it would get better as the day wore on. He says: yeah, sometimes I got headaches too, and that made the static more. He says: after Starcourt, but just before, it did get worse, yeah. Thanks to a deal struck between her and Hop, El may have the chance to spend the summer outside of the cabin with her friends. The deal? El needs to survive until the summer, with no stupid rule-breaking. And in an attempt to keep her entertained until then, she’ll also be getting two babysitters to keep her company in the cabin.
Nancy is familiar territory, but Steve is someone all but unknown to El. But he’s nice, and very interesting to observe, El can’t help but decide.

Everyone is together for a big not-quite-Thanksgiving meal a month after the Gate is closed. When the main dish is ruined, Joyce is worried there won't be enough food to go around. Steve is worried he's never going to live down that he's got a turkey ready to go in his trunk.
He brings it in anyway.
...his trunk has more containers than he could probably fit on the Byers' countertop. The main thing taking up space is a carefully wrapped roasting pan with the turkey he made and brought over before realizing that was ridiculous.

He was in the middle of a sentence, i the middle of a transaction behind the register when his eyes drifted up towards the ceiling and his voice trailed off. His jaw shifted around and he chewed on his tongue.
It was like he was completely vacant.
It lasted a few seconds, and he snapped back in, finishing his sentence and continuing the transaction like nothing happened.-

Will said it casually, but something in Mike's chest twinged at his words.
“But yesterday, I realized that I've always been capable of it. It’s like you said, it’s innate,” Will said shyly. “It’s just me. And I know me.”
“So this power to control the hive mind- it’s been in you the whole time, you just had to unlock it?” Mike asked.
“You were pretty much spot on yesterday, in the field,” Will nodded. “Sometimes I wonder how you know me so well,”
Mike felt his heart speed up a little. “Possibly because I’ve known you forever?” He nudged Will’s knee.
Will laughed, eyes crinkling at the corners. He was beautiful. “No, that can't be it,” He joked. "I think you're a psychic, actually."
“I had faith too, y'know." Mike said. “Sorcerer.” He added with a small smile. He was aware how dangerous this was. How borderline flirtatious he was being.
He couldn’t care less.
