“Wylan why is Kaz asking me to ask you about a client?” Wylan looked Jesper in the eyes pleading like he was asking for forgiveness but that isn’t what you think but all Jesper could feel is betrayal.

“Except he didn't,” said Kaz.
Everyone’s heads turned.
“What d’you mean?” frowned Jesper. Wylan stared warily down the table--

Wylan isn't used to this whole "trust and friendship" thing. So when his friends disappear without warning, it brings back some bad memories.

Wylan’s eyes flickered with a hint of fear. Kaz relented and stood back up to not loom so menacingly. Now, Kaz was the one shifting uncomfortably.

"Nina sacrificed everything for them when she took parem. Inej climbed the incinerator with a still-healing knife wound to get them out of the prison. Jesper outed himself as a Grisha to all of them. Matthias betrayed his people. All of them have done impossibly brave things tonight for the haul Kaz is promising. It’s time for Wylan to do his part."
On the boat back to Ketterdam after doing the impossible, Wylan needs to tell Kaz the truth.

If there is something Wylan knows about himself with everything he’s been through until now in his life, it’s that he is good at adapting to new situations and find his own ways of learning new skills despite not knowing how to read. So when he heard Kaz earlier today complain about one of his waitress being sick on a Friday night which is one of their busiest night. Well, Wylan nicely proposed his help as a replacement. « Have you any experience with clients ? » had asked Kaz.
Or, Wylan try to help but when he faces one very angry client it brings back bad memories. The Crows on the other hand are not having any of this.
