Even though he was made out of wires and an old steel frame that could be repaired with little more than a wrench and some adhesive, more than once he'd whirled around to find that she'd taken a hit in his stead.
To the shoulder. Or the face. Like a black eye or a half-carved bicep was something she couldn't care less about. Shifting in front of Nick at the last second so he wouldn't get a few gears knocked loose, losing blood instead…. Hawke and Fenris in hiding, a grieving Halen running to the tune of her regular reckless insanity, and the rest of the gang slandering her with increasing vehemence as they try to catch up before she ends up floating in the Amaranthine Sea.
