    Summary

On his knees, worrying his bottom lip between his teeth, lamenting how Morax wouldn't fit inside his pretty, pink mouth, Ajax looked so innocent. A red blush colored his cheeks, ears, and shoulders. He was so aggressively cute. Sweat soaked the roots of his tousled orange hair. Freckles littered his soft skin and stood out beautifully against the deepening blush. His strong hands fidgeted in his lap, covering himself.

Yes, Ajax was too precious and interesting to let go.

Childe and Zhongli accidentally time travel to the Archon War.

aka Childe gets fucked by Rex Lapis.

    Summary

“You sniffled, Zhongli,” Childe hisses, crawling over the arm of the couch like it’s a battlefield and he’s breaching enemy lines. “You made a sick noise.”

“I do not get sick,” Zhongli says, in the same voice he uses to lecture diplomats and announce the price of silk flowers. “I am the Archon of Geo. I am the Stone of Ages. My immunity is divine.”

Childe presses a hand to his forehead like a distraught Victorian widow. “You absolute fool. You blasphemous, beautiful bastard. That was post-nasal drip, admit it.”

Zhongli opens his mouth. Coughs once. A tiny, gentlemanly cough, the kind a scholar might emit into a handkerchief while pontificating about osmanthus wine.

    Childe drops to his knees.

“GET IN BED,” he screams, “YOU’RE DYING.”

In which Zhongli catches a common cold, and Childe prepares for a state funeral.

    Summary

    Zhongli is careful after that.

The moment he sees the young harbinger—sees those ocean eyes, that sharp, boyish smile—he knows.

The world has brought him back.

Not as he was, not as the man Zhongli once held in his arms, kissed under the pale hush of the moon, whispered devotion to between the hush of battles and the quiet of morning light. But as something new. A blank slate, untouched by the weight of history.

    Childe does not know him.

    Childe will never know him.

    But Zhongli does.

It is a cruel thing, memory. Like the tide that recedes and returns, like the mountain that stands long after the civilization it bore has crumbled, Zhongli remains. A god in mortal skin, walking among those who do not know his name in the language of worship anymore.

And yet, what is worship to a man who once held love in his hands?

What is eternity when the one he would have shared it with is dust beneath his feet?

Or, grief is easy when the body is cold; it is unbearable when the body smiles back at you.

    Summary

“I found this 'meme codex',” Zhongli continues serenely, flipping through what appears to be a poorly-bound series of crayon-scrawled diagrams compiled by children, titled in crooked handwriting: Funny Faces and Sentences That Make No Sense But Make You Laugh Anyway. Volume I.

“This is child propaganda,” Childe says. “You’re being indoctrinated by a fourteen-year-old.”

“The young are our future, are they not?” Zhongli muses. “And I admit, their semiotic complexity is impressive.”

He squints at a page with a scribbled stick figure saying “amogus” beside what appears to be a lopsided potato. “What, pray tell, is a ‘sussy baka’?”

Childe lets out a noise like a bird dying in reverse. “Don’t say that. Ever. Not with your mouth. Not with that voice.”

“But it is written here, repeatedly.”

    “Burn it.”

In which Zhongli discovers memes and Childe discovers suffering.

(Or, there are many things Zhongli takes seriously: history, contracts, Childe. Unfortunately, he now takes memes seriously too.)

    Summary

Zhongli is elegant catastrophe incarnate. Graceful like a marble pillar. Heavy like debt. Mysterious like an old man who forgot his wallet again. Which is unfortunate, considering Childe is the one always paying.

“It’s not a date,” Childe says, sliding a bag of mora across the table with the resigned flair of a long-suffering sugar partner. “It’s a diplomatic luncheon.”

“It is two in the morning,” says the waiter.

Zhongli hums, sipping his tea like the moon wrote him into a sonnet. “Luncheon is a flexible term.”

Childe would like to disagree. Instead, he stares at the older man’s collarbone with the expression of someone seeing divinity and planning to sin about it.

    They are definitely not dating.

They are also holding hands under the table.

And someone really should’ve told Zhongli what "low profile" meant before he recited a personalized love poem in the middle of Liyue Harbor during rush hour.

Or, the only discreet thing about their relationship is Zhongli’s belief that it is discreet at all.
