Summary
“You’re supposed to be better!” And Ponyboy heard better, and he heard supposed to be different, supposed to be able to do this, live life, not be a burden, not be traumatized, not let drunk men beat him into giving up a month of his brother’s pay. “You’re– c’mon!”
Ponyboy cracked. It was his fault, again, it was his fault in the way it was always his fault and if only he hadn’t been here, and if only he had never been here–
“I wish I’d never been born!”

Summary
It wasn't fair, but it was happening: Ponyboy was being taken out of Darry's custody and placed with his Uncle Ronny, an out-of-touch and unheard of farmer someways south of Tulsa. Ronny wasn't all bad, but he wasn't at all good- even still, nothing could have prepared Ponyboy for the visitor who stood to ruin both of their lives at any cost.

"It was July, and he was hateful, and in a few more days he would be fifteen. He got the feeling that if he didn’t get to see his brothers on his birthday, it may be a long, long time before he ever saw them again." -

Summary
“Mr. Cur- Darry. I’m sorry.” The nameless officer sat down on the couch next to him, a hand raised as if he was unsure of whether or not putting it on Darry’s shoulder was the right thing to do. It didn’t matter to him. He didn’t think he would feel it either way. “They stalled out on the tracks. Half of the car was crushed instantly, they wouldn’t have– I don’t think they even felt a thing.”
“Half the car,” Darry muttered, scrubbing his hands across his face as he raised his eyes again. “Half. My parents, gone. I heard that. I heard you… Half. Officer, my brother. I want you to tell me if my brother made it out the fucking car.”
-On the night of Darry's 20th birthday, his parents are killed in a tragic accident. But before he can let himself grieve them, he still has to bring his youngest brother home, dead or alive.

In which I put Hollanov into SituationsTM as if they were living in a procedural TV show land like Criminal Minds, The Rookie, Castle or Bones. Where, yes, hockey players attract a lot of trouble and then sort of end up solving crimes to save each other’s lives.

Summary
Shane was fourteen the first time a number felt like safety.
The nutritionist worked out of an office in Kanata, framed certificates, a calm voice, laminated charts with columns. She explained it simply: fuel in, output required, timing of each. She said it was a starting point.
Shane took notes in the margins the way he took notes on everything—completely, past what was required. Yuna had found the nutritionist herself, sat beside him, and took notes too.
Like mother, like son.
