I4 (Ingo) and 3M (Emmet) are part of a YoHra program that aims to strenghten combat ability through the bond between two androids. Having similar features, they simultaneously decided that they are brothers.
So they go together and fight the machines that have almost destroyed the planet, while Commander Elesa watch their work from The Station.They just don't know how their mission is going to change them.

The guy grins at him. “Thanks. I'd wear my prosthetic," the guy explains, gesturing with the hand holding his drink while Wolfwood hangs his coat on the back of the chair across from him. "But those things cost an arm and I've only got the one left if I lose it cause I'm drunk at the bar."
Wolfwood's so surprised by the joke he snorts when he laughs, immediately covering his mouth only to catch the dude grinning at him. He gestures to the seat Wolfwood just hung his coat on.
"Hey, you look lonely," he says. "Want to talk?"

Sad and lonely chain-smoking line cook Wolfwood meets a weird guy at the bar who keeps bees for a living. They get along really well.

Vash doesn’t need to see Wolfwood’s face to know what is there, naked and raw and irrevocable as a gut wound. He is caught, the same as Vash is, in a place between awe and devastation. Where joy is so sharp it cuts. Grief’s twin, Vash thinks.

Wolfwood looks different. Different than even the hundreds of ghosts—threads of shimmering grey shot through his temples and fine lines splintered out around his eyes like someone dragged a feather through damp clay. Like he’s aged almost decade in the year since he—
“Died,” Vash rasps. “You died.”
Wolfwood’s eyebrows shoot up in an expression that Vash has remembered so many times that his own faulty memory rewrote over the real thing.
“This isn’t—how?” he asks, voice warping around the cold static clogging his mouth.
“You ever hear of Jesus Christ?” Wolfwood grins, and it’s exactly the same. Like no time has passed. Like he’s so proud of his stupid joke. Like Vash didn’t lay his still-warm corpse in the ground and bury him on the other side of that building.
Like the inexorable inspiral of a binary star, Vash is drawn back to the orphanage in December and the unexpectedly empty grave of his dearest friend.
Or, Vash and Wolfwood and all their tomorrows.
