Summary
Upon hearing the news that they’d hired a new servant, Kate had to pretend she was fine with it.
That poor servant, how naive of them to choose the Vanderboom family. They must’ve applied after only seeing the pay, not even bother seeking out the wise words of the ones came before. Had no one told them about how servants kept disappearing in this household? Why else would she be here all alone, exhausting herself with chores while the master locked himself in his room doing who-knows-what? Once again she wondered how she’d managed to last this long, a question that lingered for a mere minute before she told herself to go to sleep.

“I will fight for you. I will do anything to take back the lives we lost,” said Lion with much conviction. “Even though everything looks bleak right now, I still want to believe we have a chance. All I ask of you is your belief in us.”

Summary
Cuc hated nightmares.
He hated how terrifying they were and how uncomfortable they made him feel afterwards. He hated the way they lingered on even after he’d fallen asleep again, when he’d thought that unpleasant stretch of his slumber was over and done with.
He thought he had moved on from those nightmares. After all, that was precisely the reason he’d packed his bags and moved all the way across the ocean, the reason he’d turned his back on his own hometown, never to return. He thought his mental state had improved significantly with the start of his new life, but apparently it was nowhere close to the change he’d hoped for.
All because those stupid nightmares returned, for no reason at all but definitely with a vengeance.

As his nightmares went on with no end in sight, Cuc began to wonder if they were more than psychological in nature. Whatever it was, he was determined to rid himself of them, even if it meant confronting a past he'd been trying to leave behind.

Summary
Over the years, humans have begun to develop a genetic mutation that grants them superpowers. These mutations are rare and often randomized, so those who do possess it are revered for their extraordinary abilities, both for good and bad reasons.
Some try their best to go about their lives normally. Others see their powers as a means of domination. And then there are those who choose to use their powers for good, for the well-being of their society. Those people then take on the role of superheroes, empowered individuals aiming to protect their communities under distinct personas. These heroes put their lives on the line without asking for anything in return, earning respect from both government and civilians alike.
Seven individuals, all of differing backgrounds and circumstances, are among such people. Together they banded into XlamV and set out to make their city a better place. Even then, they are still just as human underneath the masks they don, and with aspects of their personal lives being thrown into the fray, they will learn what it truly means to be a hero.

I remember one day you complained that working for the Vanderbooms felt like being Sisyphus, punished to repeat the same task for eternity.
I told you it was not so bad—at least I could leave three days later.
I am not sure whether you smiled, or whether I was the one who smiled.
And yet, you became the one who left, and I became the one who stayed.

The Eridian thrills a high sound that doesn’t get picked up by the translator which means that it has no clear meaning. Like when a human gasps or sucks in a deep breath. It actually sounds a little like that. When they notice that I’m staring straight at them they scramble back into their hiding spot and hold very still.
A child, I realize with a start.
That’s a child!
“Hey,” I call and the kid squeaks again. I was about to get to my feet but abort the movement and crawl closer on my hands and knees until I'm inches away from the xenonite wall. I wait and it takes me much too long to realize that they don’t have to peek around the corner to see if I’m still there.
“Hey there,” I try again, my voice low and calm. It’s my teacher voice, the one I use for shy and scared students.
Used.
The fact that I haven’t had to use it for years and it still comes to me automatically almost knocks the air out of my lungs but this is not about me, it’s about making sure the little pebble doesn’t die of fright from the scary alien. “Hi, I’m Grace. It’s alright, you don’t have to be scared.”
