Colin’s face is so earnest and Penelope feels the very familiar thump of her heart. The one the love she has for him inspires. It is so exquisite, the feeling of it, but it has also become so painful.
She knows the man before her is not the one whom she has placed on a pedestal the entirety of their acquaintance. The idealized version of him crumbled when he spoke those hurtful words. However, she knows he is sincere in his plea. She considers that perhaps she can alter the shape of her love for him instead of dismissing it altogether.

Her heart has given up on a lot and when a long lost traveller returns to her life, she is all but interested; she is indifferent, making Colin's task even harder. Set in 1800's. This is a more realistic fan fiction, Penelope needs to learn how to love herself again and then how to trust!
I'm really unsure how this is going to turn out- writing as I go along!
