“He’s been berating the crew,” Ed says, leaning back in his chair.
Bonnet makes a soft tutting noise. “Honestly, Edward, that’s nothing new.”
Izzy’s eyes don’t leave Ed’s unreadable face. He’s been walking a tightrope since Bonnet and his band of merry men returned to the Revenge, and he never knows how Ed’s going to react. It doesn’t do to look away.
“This time he mouthed off to you, love.” There’s steel under the warm tones of Ed’s voice, and Izzy has to fight the urge to shiver. “And most of the crew heard. I won’t have our first mate disrespecting one of his captains. It undermines your authority.”
A pleased hum from Bonnet. Izzy doesn’t roll his eyes, but it’s a near fucking thing. He doesn’t want to provoke Edward. He’s looking at Bonnet, but Izzy’s sure he’d still know. He always knows.
Ed turns his gaze back to Izzy, his face still blank. Izzy’s heart beats just a little faster at being so scrutinized, at having Edward so focused on him.
“He needs to be punished,” Ed says. “Needs to learn his lesson.”

In the wake of desperate pleas and heavy admissions, the balance between what is, was, and could be, has never felt so precarious.
Stede must decide whether he wants to pursue a relationship so soon after leaving his marriage, and what it is he really wants to do with his life when a dazzling invitation arrives in the mail.Izzy is forced to admit that he might not want this dalliance with Stede to end, and navigate between the truth and wonder of who he might be outside his strictly enforced framework. What price he'd be willing to pay in order to reconcile softness in his own heart after a brutal reminder of why those walls were built in the first place.
Edward is searching for meaning in the onslaught of more and more powerful visions affecting them all as they bleed through the cracks into everyday life. They are becoming real, and he worries 'real' might actually mean 'dangerous'.
Still, something is missing from the puzzle until a third painting presents itself as a gift from a strange, unknown presence.-

They had a fight. About what, Izzy wasn’t really sure.
The thing was, when he and Edward fought like that, just screaming shit to hurt each other, it felt like nothing had changed since they were younger, and it meant they were still trapped inside their own bitterness, their own addictions and hurt and misery, and they were together just because they needed each other - but like one needs food, and air, not out of love but out of survival, and if nothing had changed it meant that Stede wasn’t there to show them that life was supposed to - not hurt. And he loved his life now, he loved to have a job he liked, to manage a house like a king’s court because it made him genuinely happy, he loved to be in a relationship because he wanted to, not just because he needed an anchor to the soil, and because he loved making those two fucking arseholes happy, because everything was good, it was perfect because it was flawed and it was human, something that real people had, and he liked feeling like a real person, not the haunting ghost he was before Edward fell in love with Stede. Ed had become human before him, and then he had taken Izzy’s hand, escorting him out of the underworld.
