“You won’t kill me. You know the truth, don’t you? We both do. Our bond isn’t as shallow as we’ve pretended it is.” Dazai grimaces as pain shoots through his leg, but he doesn’t stop trying to stand as he adds, “You know how I really feel, right? How I’ve always felt?”
His beautiful, deadly partner is now perfectly still, gun aimed somewhere near Dazai’s feet, expression completely blank. Fyodor says something else over the intercom, but neither Dazai nor Chuuya hears it.
“I won’t say it,” Dazai says as he finally manages to stand, head pounding, “not until I know it’s really you who will hear it.”

Sanada Akihiko is one of them. The most important one, arguably.
The nature of their bond has never quite been static, of course. They were children when they first met, after all; they’ve both grown and changed so much over the years. But Akihiko’s existence, his presence in Shinjiro’s life, that is an absolute. It’s been fourteen years since they met and not once has Shinjiro ever regretted that event.
(He wonders, sometimes, if Akihiko ever regrets it. But that’s a question he’s not so sure he wants the answer to, these days.)
