Summary
“We’ve got company!”
Scott turns to assess the threat. Shane assumes he’s trying to decrypt their identities behind the Iron Man mask, talking frantically with JARVIS, and is given nothing in return. “Unidentifiable. Absolutely nothing in my database or S.H.I.E.L.D’s.”
“Let’s just be grateful they shot this fucker down,” Rose suggests. “We can worry about exchanging names and numbers after he’s dead!”
The others turn back to the alien general, loudly and quickly making a new game plan. Shane watches the figure approach until he’s on the business-end of that M249 SAW Paratrooper, staring up at their tactical goggles and grasping for any clue to their identity. The wielder of the SAW stares back, menacing and ferocious, before continuing to fly over cars toward the common enemy.
Shane decides he can, in fact, worry about this when Manhattan isn’t being blown to bits instead of an extraterrestrial war god. He’s excellent at compartmentalizing, something Director Murdock praises him for constantly.
Or, Shane is The Captain, Ilya is the Winter Soldier, and they continue to be soulmates in every universe

Summary
There’s a single tear slowly rolling down the smooth face. That alone is fucking impossible, but it’s not all.
The tear doesn’t leave a wet trail on the white cheek but instead reveals something living.
Human skin, soft and warm. Almost golden, kissed by the ancient Mediterranean sun.
Shane’s hands rise to cover his mouth as his mind tries to understand what he is seeing, trying to find the correct words. But in the end he just says the words that come first.
“Holy shit,” he croaks. “You are really there. You are really there.”
Yes, the voice says. Nothing else, but that’s enough.
OR: Ilya goes against his father's wishes, and his revenge is unimaginable. But Ilya knows the one who he's meant to be with is somewhere out in the world, looking for him.
He just has to believe and wait, even if it takes thousands of years
