“This is ridiculous,” she muttered. “A spattering of rain and the city shuts down. There must be at least one pilot bold enough to fly in this weather, and I’ll just have to find him – ” Then she broke off with a gasp, doubling over, one hand reaching out for something solid to grab. The only thing close enough was Asriel, and he lurched forwards, supporting her forearm with one hand and placing the other on her shoulder as she shuddered.
His mouth went dry. “Marisa…”
She was breathing heavily. “I’m quite alright,” she forced out. “A twinge, that’s all, no cause for concern. It’s been happening all day, you know, and it always passes after a minute or two…” She tailed off then, her hand coming to cover her mouth as she craned her neck up and met his wide eyes.
“Oh,” she said, glancing back at her stomach. “Oh. Oh dear.”
(With Marisa and Asriel sheltering in place due to a thunderstorm, Lyra decides to make her grand entrance into the world.)

The two people appeared from behind the small building, scarves wrapped around their faces to ward off the cold, and Lyra beamed at them, keen to make a good impression on her new colleagues. She was about to take a step towards the pair when their dæmons appeared behind them, and Lyra’s mouth could do nothing but fall open, her heart starting to rattle in her chest as her gaze swept over a snow leopard and a golden monkey.
She blinked a few times, her breaths becoming harsh rasps, but each close of her eyes only served to bring them closer to her, until she could see each black spot that dotted the snow leopard’s silver coat. “No,” she breathed, and Pan was as frozen in shock as she was. “No, no, no. It can’t be – it can’t – ”
(Five years after the end of The Amber Spyglass, Lyra receives a mysterious summons to the North.)

Asriel’s eyes widened, anger spreading across his face like thick, black petroleum polluting a lake. “What?” he said, leaning forward and banging his fist against the dark mahogany of the desk. “I ordered you to keep that woman away from Lyra. I expressly forbade it. How dare you let her come here?”
“She was very upset, Asriel,” the Master said, his expression pained.
“Oh, I’m sure she was,” he snapped. Stelmaria had stood at the news: now her tail was erect, her ears pricked up, her eyes bright and wild and sparkling.
(When Lyra is six years old, Marisa sneaks a visit with her at Jordan. Asriel catches her in the act.)

Ok, ok, I know it's May but... no, I've got no reason for this. I read the part of Uprooted where Agnieszka is sad about Midwinter and then I accidentally wrote this. OH WELL.
This is set after Uprooted ends, where Agnieszka and Sarkan are together, and she makes him endure a Midwinter's Day. It's nothing but a festive holiday special for Uprooted, and I am not sorry (did I mention it's May?).
This is just joy and happiness, and I hope it makes someone else happy in these difficult times. Stay safe out there.
