Summary
Mydei doesn't think much of it when his class is one minute late.
But as the clock on his wall ticks away, signalling that now—after losing himself in deep thought over how to handle today's lesson—it's currently ten past the hour, he finally starts getting suspicious. It's normal for classes to overrun on occasion, gods, even he's even done it before. However, it's an entirely different thing when it's this much time that's gone by without any prior notice. Mydei pushes his glasses back up onto the bridge of his nose, as they've gradually slid down while he was staring at the worksheets on his desk.
He sighs, glancing at the clock once again. Two more minutes, he promises himself, and then he'll go figure out where the hells his class has disappeared off to.

Wei Ying cracks a grin. “And if you look, you’ll always find the lighthouse ready to guide you home.”
Lan Wangji nods with the faintest quirk to the corners of his lips. His chest warms—it’s a gentle heat that swathes him from head to toe, not unlike the first bloom of spring. “Home,” he agrees.

Summary
“Looks like he’s taken a liking to you,” Wei Ying says with a huff. Lan Wangji’s world shifts another ninety degrees when he’s pinned with the full force of Wei Ying’s attention. The guitarist perches on the other half of A-Yuan’s seat and slides an arm around the boy, smoothing back his hair before tweaking his nose. A-Yuan twitches, and Lan Wangji practically burns where Wei Ying had grazed against his shoulder.
Wei Ying leans over and sets his chin lightly against A-Yuan’s head. There’s a gleam to his eye, silver coins that put all other metals in the world to shame. The boy sniffs again, and slowly, under the hollow of the guitarist’s body, he relaxes. “And who,” Wei Ying continues, “has bewitched my little radish?”

Wei Ying counts to three, takes a breath, then shoots upwards. “Sorry, I dropped my pen,” he says, not even trying to make his lie sound convincing, because what the fuck, Lan Zhan is gorgeous. He has the brightest eyes Wei Ying’s ever seen, the nicest, longest eyelashes, and black hair draping over his shoulder. This guy has clearly won the lottery of attractive genes, which means he must be lacking in something else, like maybe his voice—
“It’s fine.”

It's… preposterous, how handsome he is. How much he looks like he belongs there, up on the screen above the city’s most fabulous shopping arcade. More like an idol, a high-paid talent, than an athlete.

Summary
To say that he runs to his car would be incorrect, as he is a Lan, and running is both undignified and unnecessary unless in immediate danger. Nor does he slam his key into the ignition, or aggressively swerve around the cars on the freeway, or have a mild panic attack at the fact he is picking A-Yuan up late from school for the first time ever.
He comes close, though.
By the time he arrives, it’s 4:35PM, and he has imagined about fifty different worse-case scenarios. The door is partly open when he gets to it, a messy label of 104B—Art Room scrawled with chalk on a placard next to the faded wood. As he opens it fully, he expects to see a wailing, terrified child, or perhaps a scene of utter misery and betrayal.
What he finds is his son, hands covered in paint, being sung to by a beautiful, dark-haired stranger.
“Ducks live in the pond, yellow ducks, happy ducks!”
Lan Wangji stops in his tracks.
