Elphaba wraps the scarf around Glinda's neck, looping it around at her throat and tucking it in. She’s close. Glinda can see each glinting freckle on her face. Their eyes meet, and Elphaba smiles.
“This is like how we met,” she says, indicating to her shawl.
Glinda feels a little breathless; she forces an easy smile. “You’re just returning the favour.”
“Except I’m not bringing you to life,” Elphaba points out.
But you are, in a way, Glinda thinks.

Summary
Galinda Upland and Elphaba Thropp technically work together—if you count different branches in entirely different parts of Oz as working together.
Until now, their paths had never crossed. But during the annual inter-branch fair, fate, bad timing, and a spectacular chain of unfortunate events shove them into the same booth, the same project… and, somehow, the same relationship.
Now they have to smile, nod, and convincingly act like they’re head-over-heels for each other in front of colleagues, clients, and the entire Emerald City corporate network. Which is fine.

When Wednesday reached the library the next day, Ajax was already waiting for her.
“I have a plan,” Wednesday announced. “Operation Ick.”
“Operation Ick?” Ajax repeated. “As in, like, getting the ick? Who even taught you that?”
“Yes,” Wednesday answered, ignoring the last bit. “We are going to trick Bruno into doing everything that Enid finds repulsive in a partner.”
“How are we going to do that?” Ajax asked. It may have had a dismissive edge, but he seemed curious.
“I have a list of things that Enid finds icky, and you’re going to feed them to him,” Wednesday said.
OR
Enid gives Bruno a second chance, and Wednesday enlists Ajax's help to break them up.

Enid flopped onto her bed, tore it open, and unfolded the sheet inside. The first line made her bark out a laugh.
“Obituary: Enid Sinclair, survived by excessive glitter and poor taste.”

Summary
"As the new school year settles into familiarity, I find myself unwillingly surrounded by an entourage of deluded individuals claiming to be my friends. The aforementioned individuals commonly display behaviours which I find intolerable at best. This is unacceptable. However, for reasons unknown, my threats of violence are quickly losing their effectiveness at dissuading such unwanted behaviour. In light of this, I've decided to attempt a different approach: instead of reprimanding what I consider bad behaviour, I will reward what I consider good behaviour."
Enid shook her head. "Wednesday, do you really think that's gonna--"
Wednesday held up a gold-star sticker. Enid let her sentence trail off and stared, baffled.
Slowly, Wednesday peeled it from the backing and stuck it onto Enid's cheek.
"Blissful silence,” Wednesday said. “It's working already."

"Today has already been amazing. Especially if you’re letting me choose a movie.” Even if she had tried, Elphaba doubts Galinda could have hid her bad intentions. “I guess what I’m trying to say is that you’re kind of spoiling me.”
“You want to be spoiled.”
“What? Well, maybe, but–” Galinda groans, throwing her arms up in the air. “Alright Elphie, you caught me, I do want to be spoiled. Happy?”
She’s smirking. “Very.” The sandwiches are finished, so she grabs her gift and joins Galinda on their couch. She blinks and Galinda’s knees have been pulled up into Elphaba’s lap with Galinda’s arm wrapped around her shoulder, fingers twirling Elphaba’s hair.
This always happens.

In careful, deliberate ways, Elphaba has found she and Galinda are not so different. In careful, deliberate ways, they have also learned from each other— what it means to be certain that you never need to be anyone but exactly who you are; what it means to know that there is someone who would never ask you to change. What it means when one day, you look in the mirror, and you see that you have anyway, because change is so very easy when someone loves you that much.
Which is to say, that in some fashion, Galinda, who has never been careful or deliberate, has barged her way into Elphaba’s quiet life and for once banished her own impulses in favor of new ones, in favor of the slow, connective kindness that can only be unearthed by the gentlest pair of hands.
