Keith bites his lip. “Uh,” he says, remembering the the boredom, the sameness. The daze, the numbness, the emptiness. Working a boring insurance job, living in a shitty apartment, the typewriter gathering dust back in his room. “I really think I peaked in high school.”
Lance straight up laughs at that. “That’s impossible! You’re out of your mind,” Lance says. Their stop is coming up, the train is slowing down. “You know, cause we never hooked up in high school.”
Or the one where Keith and Lance haven't seen each other since high school, but they get a second chance.

“Cowboy, you are even slower than usual. How will you get the Commander to put you into the field when you are so so slow even a cow could beat you?”
“Mighty quiet cow,” Jesse grunts.

There are rules to this sort of thing. Not the common sort, made to be broken and bent and outright ignored, but the old kind, made for dealing with dangerous things.
And they are all dangerous things, in Overwatch.
McCree survives by knowing which rules to break and which to obey and when to do the opposite of what he usually does. Dangerous things stay dangerous because they can change - he knows this all too well.

He’s never been very religious. Raised Catholic, to worship God in all his glory, but he’d quickly rejected the presumed image of this deity. No reason to believe in a God that lets so many bad things happen in the world. Jesse McCree doesn’t believe in white robes or angelic choirs, in halos and wings of blinding hues, no, he doesn’t think that the God everyone speaks of is real. He’s more convinced that there’s a being that spins their fate and they’re destined to walk the path, however hard it is.
If there's one thing he believes in, it's sin. And there's been plenty of angels in his life that have helped him to absolve his sins. Hanzo Shimada is one of them.
