Κάπου, κάποτε, πέθανε.
Την ίδια στιγμή, την πρώτη μάλλον στιγμή, εμφανίστηκε έξαφνα μπροστά σε ένα παγκάκι στην πλατεία Ομονοίας. Την ένιωσε σαν πρώτη στιγμή επειδή δεν θυμόταν τίποτα πριν από αυτή – μονάχα ένα θολό, απόμακρο παρελθόν μιας ζωής που πρέπει να κράτησε το πολύ δυο χρονιά. Τον Λάζαρο Λαζάρου τον θυμήθηκε αμέσως αλλά με έναν ψυχρό, ενοχικό τρόπο σαν πράγμα που θα έπρεπε κανείς να είχε φροντίσει να ξεχάσει από καιρό. Τη γυναίκα που στεκόταν απέναντι του και τους παρατηρούσε και τους δύο με ένα απροσδιόριστο ύφος απογοήτευσης δεν την ήξερε αλλά την αναγνώρισε. Κατάλαβε πως μοιραζόταν μαζί της κάτι σημαντικό.
