Astarion’s mouth clicked shut, silvery fangs vanishing behind pursed lips as his widened eyes shot somewhere above Lilith’s head. She turned toward the spectacle, and found the same older elven couple they had since passed. The woman was standing now, hands so tightly wound in the fabric of her blouse that they’d turned stark white. The man was no calmer, fingers gripping his knees and eyes watching the young couple as though they were made of smoke.
“Star, is that you?”
(After these empty centuries, Astarion comes face to face with a family he cannot recall)

Viktor’s scowl deepens. “That is not what I meant, and you know it,” he says suddenly. The rush of English out of his mouth takes a second for Jayce to register. Whoever it is on the other end of the line evidently has to take a moment too. Viktor presses on. “Well, they can do whatever it is they want. My place is here.”
Jayce’s chest tightens. He debates about slipping back to their room. He doesn’t need to hear the other voice on the phone to know who Viktor might be speaking to.
In the few phone calls he’s managed to have with his family, they have been either curt and short, or long and pointed. Regardless of what kind of phone call he might have, Viktor always comes out of it with a shadow cast across his face.

Jayce feels a pang of sympathy for the greyhound. An amalgamation of parts put together. Parts that shouldn’t work but do.
“What’s wrong with her leg,” he says, his scowl returning.
The handler tells Jayce that Lucy snapped her back hock in her last race and was ultimately retired.-
Ximena convinces Jayce to get a retired Greyhound to keep him company after the Acadamy sends him on sick leave after an incident leaves him in the throes of PTSD.

Summary
Viktor is not the leader of the Haven community, no matter what Mel and Caitlyn say, but he does act as the spokesman when they're forced to deal with the other clans that roam the wastes. So when Ambessa Medarda and her warband show up at Haven's gates with a prisoner for trade, it's Viktor who goes to negotiate with her. Much to his shock, her prisoner turns out to be Jayce, whom Viktor has long known to be dead. But in the intervening years, Jayce has become something dangerous and feral, and he no longer remembers Viktor.
Obviously, Viktor isn't going to leave Jayce in the cruel hands of the Noxians, but he both longs for and dreads the moment that Jayce's memories return, because he knows that will be the moment that he loses Jayce again, forever.
