Summary
Of course, a mass casualty event was not the time to disclose that to Robby. Of course, Robby was at capacity for how much he could lose. And of course, it had been the worst day of Robby’s life. For a moment, in his drug-induced selfishness, Frank pleaded for Robby to remember the little bit of good in him; to ignore the bad. When Frank watched Leah die from across the room, when he heard of Robby trembling against a wall in paeds, he did the only thing that made sense. He insisted that Robby see the abundance of bad in him; to ignore the good.

Summary
A stroller rounded the corner of the aisle, followed by a woman with curious, gushing eyes. “How long have you two been together?”
Frank grinned.
Dennis stammered.
“About a year.” Frank said as Dennis overlapped with: “We’re not a couple.”
The woman’s face fell into confusion.
“We’re not doing the labels thing.” Frank bounced easily. "Except, you know, the Big D."
Dennis stared, wide-eyed.
"Dads." Frank elaborated, gesturing to the store around them.

Summary
“Hey, Cassie. It’s Frank,”
Cassie scrambled to pause it. Her mobile felt like a megaphone and the crackly speaker sounded like it was shouting a secret. She glanced around, wondering if the entire ER had heard the worry broadcasting through her phone, and noted that the only one alarmed by this development was her.
She toggled off the speaker, restarted the message, and raised the phone to her ear.
Or when McKay says “Call me if you need anything”, he does.

Summary
“Just hit me or something.” The words crack like a glowstick.
Something glows in Robby. Neon sludge threatening to bubble up and seep from his lips. Hit him? He’d considered it. Often. He’d feel better. Probably. But only if his fist hurt. Only if his own knuckles were battered as a result. Only if the pain was brutal enough to cross the threshold from mental to physical and leave them both maimed. He thought about what the aftermath of that would be. The shadows would be left with a very sad dance floor.

Summary
“This is so fucked,” Robby says, the laughter in his voice a cruel echo of the way he used to say that to Frank, the we’re-in-this-together exasperation of the ER’s worst days, and he drags his hand down his face to stop himself from flinching when he recognizes it. “Does your wife—”
“Don’t,” Frank says, voice sharper than Robby’s heard it all night. Sharper than he’s heard it in ten months, the sharpest it’s been since Frank had to dull the blade of it and turn it inwards to save his own hide. It’s a bark more than a spoken word, but Frank’s not a dog.
Dogs don’t talk, Robby thinks. Dogs don’t talk, and dogs don’t have wives.
It’s more fucked, Robby knows, that it’s the word wife rotating around in his skull and not her name. He knows her. He likes her, for god’s sake. He’s had holiday dinners at her table and shared fond eye-rolls across the appropriately-themed tablecloth at ridiculous things Frank’s said, that same we’re-in-this-together exasperation, and now — now Robby can’t even give her the dignity of thinking her name with his fingers in her husband’s mouth.
or: frank isn't very good at asking for forgiveness. robby isn't very good at granting it.

the whole series is elite but this as a stand alone is so freakin injectable. Just shoot me up. Stupidly well written and gut punching, one to re-read again and again

Summary
Frank Langdon has been struggling with his family life, work life, and sobriety since he returned to PTMC. Someone from his past shows up at PTMC leading him to spiral into depression and desperation. Robby, still struggling with his own mental health after his sabbatical, decides to intervene.
This is gonna be a very slow burn and there's a fair bit of plot before they get together. Gotta put Frank through the wringer first.
This will flip between Langdon and Robby's points of view.
Rating may change when things progress between Robby and Langdon. Though it won't happen quickly.Bookmarked by disposablethumbs

Bookmarker's Notes
super twisty story about Frank's childhood psychiatrist who is probably a very bad person. Big ol angst concoction, why do I consume these things that hurt me. (because they are brilliantly painful that's why)
