Summary
Martha drives home from Smallville Elementary School at 11am on a Thursday. The rain spritzes her windscreen with droplets which the wiper pushes away in long, lazy strokes. The radio is playing some old song she never cared for, turned low. And her son is sitting in the passenger seat, breathing his way through the final throes of panic.
“That’s right, baby,” Martha murmurs, keeping her eyes on the road. “Deep breaths, like that, like we practised.”

He doesn’t know if he’s looking for closure – if the unhealing wound Mordru’s left on his back tells him anything, it’s that closure’s not in the cards – but Sentinel has been a constant of his time as Fate, and Jared still harbors some trace of sentiment brought on by the strangeness of his return no matter how he’s tried to hide it.

Never before had the JSA’s brownstone so closely resembled the former glory of Dodds Manor, Jared’s certain of it. He’s certain of his current vicinity to a painful death, too.
It’s the crowd, he thinks, not the place. Makes his skin crawl looking at all the bigwigs prancing around and shaking hands, getting that look in their eyes when they find they’ve misplaced his name, like they’ve heard of him to begin with.
