Summary
Rumi is a prodigy PHD student who wants to study the biology of Pandora, a planet far from her dying planet. She hopes the planet has the key to solving the climate crisis. If she is diligent and careful, she might be able to accomplish it, as long as she doesn't interact with the natives. They don't know about humans yet.
Zoey (friendly name for Zokeri) is very familiar with humans. They destroyed her ancestral home and killed her tribe's chief. The remnants of her tribe all have to seek refuge with a section of the ash tribe on the far coast. Though they are accepted, cultural differences keep her world unstable and it doesn't help that she has a crush on the Chief's daughter.
Mira (friendly name for Mirkatkaina) hates her new home, its cold, its noisy, it smells like fish and she has to mix in with the sea Metkayina and deal with all their issues on top of her own clan's. Like the one main ash clan, her father is tempted to ally themselves with the starpeople, though that would cause an uproar. It would especially upset the traumatized cute girl she really wants to mate with.
Jinu the horse was bred for one thing. War. He can't have war though, so he chooses all other forms of chaos.

Summary
Rumi has a strange dream one night that makes her wonder if she shouldn't just tell Zoey and Mira the truth. It hurts keeping them in the dark, it hurts knowing how much she wants to let them in but can't out of fear.
She decides she's finally going to tell them, she's going to reveal her parantage and patterns and hope they're on her side through it.
She really hopes the fact they're interrupted by a demon attack doesn't prevent her from being able to reveal it on her terms like she'd spent all day psyching herself up for.
OR:
What if Rumi dreampt the entirety of the movie a couple months before it takes place and decided that she wanted to believe Zoey and Mira truly would be on her side if she just told them.

"Come on, demon scum,” Zoey bounces on the balls of her feet. practically vibrating as she shifts from side to side and wipes the blood from beneath her nose. Her smile is sharp. just as clear as it was an hour ago when they had started. “You call that a hit?”
Or. Rumi clutches her hands to her sides, letting her claws dig into her palm. Celine watches her with a softening expression, taking a breath before letting it out.
“Oh Rumi” she says, cupping her cheek, the warmth of her palm sinking into her skin.
“Don’t ruin these young girls' lives. Leave them alone. They have a whole world ahead of them” Celine pulls away and heads for the door but at the last moment she turns to look back at her, “don’t let your selfishness be the thing that kills them”
or. What if Celine hadn't turned Rumi into a hunter? what if she had seen the abomination of a child that had been left to her and thought she might as well turn her into something useful.

The once subtle patterns rippled across her skin like gouges through her flesh, deep purple and red. They were spreading, expanding violently. The Hon-moon was in tatters around her.
The girl—the demon—looked up in time to see Celine, before the ground swallowed her whole. Before Gwi-Ma claimed what was his.-Now-
“At least there’s only one this time…? We can just take her out before she gets too-too-big?”
Mira’s face softened, but not in a good way. Her expression reflected back the weight Zoey still felt deep in her bones after the week they’d had.

Summary
Raised by her mother, Mi-yeong, since she was little, Rumi grew up different from other children. Either it be her golden eye or the patterns or her unique mannerisms, Rumi found it difficult to make friends. It was just not in the cards when you’re a half-demon. But that hasn't stopped her mom from trying to give her the best life possible, where she is able to be normal.
It isn't until Mi-yeong and Rumi move to Seoul that she's able to go to high school, where she has a real opportunity to make friends. Fortunately, there's one very energetic girl in particular that seems eager to be one.
Or: Rumi is raised by Mi-yeong, who doesn’t suppress Rumi’s demon nature growing up, and soon tries to give her daughter a normal high school experience.

Fight, flight, or freeze.
Those are the base responses to stress. As hunters, it became their second nature to fight. A skillset honed over years of practice, there would never be any hesitation. A demon wouldn’t hesitate and neither should they.
It was easy enough to grasp. You see the glowing patterns, you kill it. Mira was always more of the combative type anyway. For once, this was a rule she didn’t mind following.
