The world came back in fragments.
Cold first. The kind that bit deep, filling her lungs with ice. Then the sound, wind cutting through the wreck, distant and low, carrying the hiss of snow. Rumi's eyes fluttered open, her head pounding like something was trying to crawl out from inside her skull. Everything was a blur of white, black and orange flickers.
She tried to move, but pain shot through her left hand sharp enough to make her gasp. When she looked down, there was a long, thin shard of glass buried in her palm, slick with blood.
For a long moment she just stared at it, breathing hard, the cold air stinging her throat. Then she gritted her teeth, wrapped her right hand around the shard, and pulled. The sound it made was wet and small but it stung. The glass came free, followed by a slow spill of blood that dripped into the snow.
She dropped it beside her and pushed herself up, her body trembling. Her ears rang. The smell of burning fuel clung to the air, thick and heavy. Ahead of her, the wreckage of the plane burned in broken pieces.

Zoey and Mira are at the end of their rope waiting for Celine to finally track down this third and final member of their hunting trio before they can make their debuts as idols and start to actually be effective against the forces of evil in their world. They decide to blow off some steam at a club in the city but run into trouble when they come toe to toe with a demon unlike any they'd faced before.
She's strong and clearly very powerful, but when they draw their weapons, she does something no other demon has when faced with the opportunity to try and take down the legendary demon hunters.
She runs away.
